As Smitty woke up he felt light. Not in a bad way but it was as if a weight lifted off his chest. "He was weighing me down anyway..."
The sun was barely rising so Smitty knew he wasn't asleep for long. He was surprised he slept at all. Of course because of what happened he thought he would never sleep again.
He slowly got up from against the tree. He then took in his surroundings trying to find where he was. The trees were tall yet somewhat skinny. He could hear the faint sounds of cars so he knew he was close to the road.
He began walking. Crunch Crunch, beneath his feet. A reminder of where he was and what he did. What he did to his best friend. No, NO! His enemy, his best enemy.
He shook his head trying to get it out of his head. Hearing the crunching of leaves and the slow increase of car sounds distracted him a bit. Cars, one of the best ways to distract him.
As he exited the forest he saw the highway. He knew no one would pick him up from the side of the road. He luckily knew his way around though. He went over to the nearby intersection and crossed the road into town once he could.
No one really liked Smitty in the town. Their reason was because he was "different". He wasn't different though! He was like everyone else, ignoring the killings he's done. He was normal like everyone.
As he walked he could hear their whispers. He ignored them unless they were a bit too loud for his liking. Which prompted him to give the people a death stare. Those always shut them up real quickly.
Once he finally got home he opened the door. His dog, Octavia, came running up to him. He smiled, and kneeled down to pet her. She was his last friend. She sat down until he shut the door behind him which prompted her to run into the kitchen.
He chuckled knowing she wanted to be fed. He went into the kitchen and poured the dog food into her bowl. She happily started eating. "You would never betray me, would you, Octavia?" he said in a somewhat baby voice, as he gave her a pat on the head.
He decided to get him some food too. He just made himself something simple, cereal. It's not like he could make something decent. He practically had no job, besides working at a gas station and taking side gigs. Sure he almost always stole from the people he killed but that didn't mean that got him lots of money.
He went back into the living room with his bowl of cereal. He sat on his couch and turned on the T.V. He put on the news to see if there was anything new.
"NEW MISSING PERSONS REPORT-Matt —— has been reported missing, after not responding to his phone for over 24 hours. Which, in his parents words, "isn't unusual but this time was different we just knew from a gut feeling." Now we have no leads of who could have kidnapped or, worse, killed him-"
After he heard those words he turned off the T.V. He sat down his bowl on his coffee table. He grabbed his hair hard. "no...No...NO..."
He stood up quickly. "They weren't supposed to know that quickly...he told them he was going on a trip...THIS IS ALL GOING WRONG!"
He ran up to his room. Knocking a picture down onto the floor, breaking. He didn't care though. He shut his door quickly. "Come on, come up with an alibi!"
He looked around his room. He noticed a medium picture frame. "Family...say you were dealing with some family things..." he went over to the frame and put it down, "say someone died or something..."
He laid down on his bed. Letting out a deep sigh of relief. "That'll work, just keep your story straight..."
"Just stick to the plan, that's all you have to do..." He said sitting up, "the plan...."
He got up and went over to his closet. He opened it and pulled out a box. He opened it up and grabbed a book from it. Smitty got up and went over to his desk, "the plan..."
He opened the book and went to a page almost subconsciously. The page's title was "THE PLAN" in big scribbly letters. This was made in middle school, his best year ever because of Matt, his best ENEMY.
Smitty read it carefully, "Get rid of anyone who disagrees with you or thinks you're crazy. Move away from this wretched town with Matt. Get good paying jobs and live together peacefully, with no one in the way of our happiness!"
He let out a deep sigh then noticed some green pen work on the bottom of it. "YEAH NO ONE CAN STOP OUR HAPPINESS!!!" Is what it read.
Something broke inside of him. He wasn't a very emotional person but seeing this made him crack. He began tearing up with how naive and happy they were back then and how they had a complete plan for their life together.
"No no...I'm so sorry...I-I didn't mean too....why did I do that?....." He held his head in his head. Slowly the tears fell off his face and onto the paper. He sniffled, "why did I hurt him?"
You wanted revenge for his supposed "betrayal" of you. Don't you realize that?
