"Also, do you see how the pinky toe has 2 joints instead of 1? In every instance of the quirk mutation, those individuals also have 1 joint instead of 2. I'm sorry to tell you, but your son is quirkless."

Why are you sorry? Izuku thought to himself. He decided not to listen to the rest of the conversation, letting his eyes drift down to the mini All Might figurine his mother had gotten him the summer before 1st grade. Izuku had begged his mother to get it for him for a whole week until she finally caved and bought it. But now that he sat gripping his knees as his head slumped down towards the floor, he found himself glaring daggers at the dainty action figure.

"Is there anything we can do? I mean, I just thought he was a late bloomer!" His mother desperately asked the doctor, tears starting to form in her eyes as she reached over and held her son's hand in hers. "He can't be quirkless. He... He just can't be!" She started to cry at this point, and Izuku's body tensed up even further as he tried to contain his own tears. why am I quirkless? what's wrong with me?

"well... there is something." Izuku lifted his gaze up to look at the doctor. The only hair he had resided on his upper lip, his arms crossed over his chest, hiding the name tag that was pinned on his pristine, white lab coat.

"What is it?" Izuku found himself asking, he leaned forward in his chair, eyes wide, staring at the doctor in pure shock and desperation, hoping he had some way to make him normal. "You can give me a quirk?" He asked as he tilted his head to the side, waiting for the man to explain.

The doctor stood up from where he sat on the rolling chair in front of them and walked over to his desk. He started picking up a random stack of folders, carefully holding them in his hands and bringing them over to the young boys mother.

"Since your son is still under the age of 8, I have a very unique set of experiments that could have the potential to give your son a quirk. The experiments would take approximately 7 months and there are definitely dangers that could potentially happen to your son, but I have very high hopes that your son is the perfect fit for this program." Izuku turned his head to look up at his mother. She sat there silent for what felt like years but was really only a few minutes, just reading and flipping through the different folders in her lap. Izuku sat there, impatiently waiting for his mother's verdict as he messed with the hem of his All Might hoodie. Suddenly, his mother turned her attention to Izuku, looking him in the eyes.

"Izuku..." She said, closing her eyes as she took a slow breath. Izuku held his. "Do you understand that this is a big decision?" She finally said opening her eyes to look at Izuku once again, all he could do was nod in response. "This is very serious and I need you to understand that this is dangerous, okay?" She paused, taking in a deep, hesitant breath, "But... it's up to you. Okay? Do you want to try?"

Izukus eyes widened and glistened with hope as he hastily nodded his head. "Yes, I understand mom! I want to try! I wanna have a quirk like you and Kachan!" He cheered happily, just the idea of showing up at school with a quirk made him all giddy. Then Kachan would have to find a new nickname for him!

This decision shouldn't have been up to Izuku, he is only a child after all, she should have taken him home and told him he was perfect just the way he was, but no one could really blame Inko, all she ever tried to do was give Izuku the life he wanted and deserved. No matter how much she loved her son for who he was, she understood what being quirkless meant for her son's future; discrimination and pain. She couldn't do that to him, she wouldn't. And that's why she found herself asking:

"When would the program start?" She smiled lightly at her son as he cheered, bending down to pick up his figurine, and happily jumping around the room. She turned her attention back to the doctor as he started to speak again.

"Well, I just have some paperwork you have to fill out, and then we can start the program tomorrow!" The doctor said as he quickly stood up, walking back to his desk and rummaging around for said paperwork. "You'll bring him back here tomorrow and drop him off. He'll have to stay here with us for the program in order for us to be able to track his progress and make sure the experiments are working properly." He stated while walking back over with the paperwork in hand.

Inko didn't really know how to feel about the idea of dropping her son off with a stranger. The doctor must have noticed her hesitation as he quickly added, "Don't worry ma'am the facility has surveillance, we wouldn't be putting your son in any danger. Not on purpose."

Inko sat there for a moment, taking in the entirety of the situation. She let her eyes drift back over to her son who was now making his All Might figurine dance on the wall. She let out a deep sigh. "Okay... just... please take good care of my son." She stated hesitantly, looking down at the paperwork and beginning to read;

QUIRK PROGRAM
- I WILL NOT DISCLOSE PRIVATE PROGRAM INFORMATION
- I WILL NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT THE PROGRAM AS IT IS LIMITED
- THIS FACILITY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR COMPLICATIONS

PLEASE SIGN HERE: ___________________

The paperwork wasn't very descriptive and she started to feel uneasy with the idea of it all, but either way, she lifted her pen and signed her name. "Izuku come over here, I think you have to sign too." Izuku turned his attention away from the action figure and to his mother, rushing over so he could sign. "Okay mom!"

As Izuku messily signed his name, neither Izuku or Inko noticed how the doctor smiled. It could've been due to the sweet moment shared between the two as Inko joked about her son's messy and wobbly signature, but the sadistic look in his eyes would immediately shut down that theory.

The doctor collected the paperwork and stood up from his seat as Inko did the same, grabbing Izukus hand as he jumped from his chair. He walked the two over to the door, turning his attention to the green haired boy, "Well then, if we're all set here, I guess I'll see you tomorrow, Izuku Midoriya."
