My best friend and I walked on the little shortcut we discovered four years ago to walk to our local high school together. To us, this shortcut was huge! It leads to both of our houses, regardless if we live five blocks away from one another. While we walked, we sleepily eyed the sun slowly and lazily rising over the hazy horizon that covered our small town's outskirts. Unfortunately, it is also by the sports field and an open sports field at that.
"Hey, Celestia! Heads up!" Exclaimed the captain jock, alarmed. I assumed it was from what his voice sounded like, exclaimed with a panicky tone.
And just my luck, as I turned to face the captain, who exclaimed my name with an alarmed warning tone. Wham! A football pummeled onto my face. I fell back onto the ground on my bottom with a subtle thud because my backpack was a bit hefty that day due to the SAT happening soon, and I needed to study extra hard. Even though I already knew I was going to master the PreSAT that was happening today, I knew that a little bit more studying couldn't hurt. I let out a sharp intake of a shocked gasp as the wind got knocked out of me all of a sudden, and, due to the heavy force of the impact.
"Ahh! Ouch! I know the field is an open one, which I hate; you should be extra cautious about where your jocks are throwing your footballs! I mean, seriously! It could hit someone else in the face! Or even worse, their freakin' eye next time!" I exclaimed, irritated.
After I scolded him, slash bit his ear off. The jock then rolled his eyes and exclaimed sarcastically with his arm crossed.
"Sorry, Mom! I didn't see you there," he exclaimed sarcastically and with a defiant body language.
Hearing his sarcastic and rude manners, as well as his defiant body language towards me, I glared at him sharply with a dangerous and warning aura, which he then frantically and panickally changed his body attitude and tone of voice.
"S..Sorry! I..I mean, Celestia! I didn't see you there, Celestia! I...I mean, we'll undoubtedly try harder next time not to hit you! A..Anyway... Let's go, boys, back to training!" He exclaimed with nervous and sheepish eyes.
"Right!" Exclaimed all the jocks simultaneously.
I sighed, as I was always the high school's pillar, ensuring everyone stayed within the school rules. If someone was sad or upset, I was their therapist.
"Celestia. Celestia. Earth to Celestia," she says while waving her hand in front of my face, which causes me to snap out of my daydreaming and return to reality quickly.
Scarllet was my best friend since we were babies, and was also the one who walks with me every morning. Afterwards, she helped me back onto my feet, although for her it was a bit of an endeavor.
"Oh! Sorry, Scarllet. I was thinking of how much this school depends on me to secure the foundation of all its student's mental and physical well-being. As well as to make sure no one breaks the rules," I say while wearily sighing.
"Oh. Okay. Misses have to do it all," she said playfully.
I then rolled my eyes slightly exasperated.
"Haha. Very funny, Scarllet. You know this school depends on me to ensure no one falls out of line," I said while replying playfully and with a slight smirk.
"So, are you the one who is the school sheriff and the father figure of your family?" She asked while raising one eyebrow and using the same playful tone.
"Well, who else is supposed to be the sheriff? Plus, you know I must be the father figure because my dad died when my little brother was six years old, and my little sis was a year old," I said a little defensively.
"I know. I know," she said while she turned away briefly and, in a slight mutter.
"No need to get so defensive; I'm not some stranger to you," she sighed heavily before returning to look at me and speaking in her usual tune.
"I always wonder why you hate vampires, yet you go into the woods. In. The. Middle. Of. The. Night. Or maybe even earlier to visit your father's grave," she said, her tone changing from normal to slightly exasperated while rolling her eyes slightly.
"I do hate vampires, which is why I always carry holy silver spray," I say while also being slightly defensively.
"You do know that even if you managed to spray that thing, you would still end up dead. Vampires are way faster and have incredibly sharp claws that can easily rip that thing out of your hands," she said while doing air quotations when mentioning my spray as a thing to try to make her point.
"So what do you expect me to do then? If this holy silver spray does not work. Should I start disrespecting my late father by not going to his grave at night when he died?!" I exclaimed, exasperated by her current brash demeanor.
