Well, since my brother put it that way, I glanced down at the book I held and thought about how paranoid and ridiculous I was being. The plan hasn't exactly gone right for the start, my Audi pretty much messed up and all this caused me so much stress. Perhaps my brother is right. The book I was looking through wasn't helping my stressful state, provoking my mind to play tricks on me.
I gave in and sighed "You're right....I'm sorry I even bothered...I'll go put away this musty old book and get some sleep."
"Finally!" Johnny uttered and was about to shut his door.
But suddenly. I paused only to hear a faint toll from outside. It sounds far but noticeable enough to hear.
A perplexed expression appeared on my face as I turned around to glance over towards my guest bedroom.
"What the hell?...." I mumbled in confusion.
I walked over to enter my room and went straight to look outside my window. It was dark outside but it was obviously coming towards the direction of the town of Nilbog.
Something about the sound of the bell toll just sent shivers down my spine, I never thought that a bell like that would be so creepy and eerie.
Then not long, I heard a voice right behind me.
"Do you see anything?"
I jumped in startle and looked over my shoulder to see it was Johnny.
I placed my hand over my chest, feeling my heart pounding within. "Jesus, you scared me....." I said while a little annoyed that he just came over silently without me knowing.
Soon, I heard Nadia's voice call out from the hallway. "Are you guys hearing this?"
I fixated my attention back to my window, looking out of it to hear the eerie bell toll for about nine more times.
"How could we not? It's coming from the town...." I replied as I kept peering outside into the pitch blackness, trying to adjust my sight to see past it. But obviously that wasn't doing anything.
I didn't understand why a bell like that would toll for. Plus it's completely dark out, I could hardly see the distance of the town. "What the hell is going on?...." I asked in a puzzled manner.
Johnny shrugged "Maybe they're having one of those church services...." He assumed.
I snapped my head to him with a more confused expression "In this time of night though???....."
Nadia soon entered the room to look out the window too in attempts to see. She was just as confused as I was. She shook her head "Churches don't usually stay open this late.....This is honestly weird...."
I turned to Nadia and nodded in agreement "Precisely my thoughts...."
Johnny sighed "Does it really matter? Who knows? Maybe it's some curfew to signal those who are staying up late?..." Then added as he waved it off "This is dumb.....All I want to do is catch some sleep so I'll be doing so.....Night....."
Then Johnny returned to his guest room to get the rest that he needed.
I took one last glance out the window as I folded my arms in front, getting the creeps just by staring outside. Nadia turned to me with a genuine, kind smile. "I'll be heading to bed too. I'm sure there must be a logical explanation for the church bell" then she went to give me a hug.
