Walking into the new house I just bought minutes away from downtown, I cant help but think about the new life I'm going to have to get used to. I didn't want to leave Chattanooga, iv'e always been a country guy, the city is terrifying, but... I have a career to start now. I graduated from med school an just finished my residency, the hospital in downtown has just offered me the position of a lifetime, I am now about to become the chief of trauma at Nashville Regional Medical Center. But first I want to get to know the area, Max my five month old Dalmatian is already sniffing around the new house, I have been stressing to find a place that not only would I like, but also a place where Max is happy, he is my child, people laugh when I say that but he is.
"Max look, it's a park, yeah I know your dad is the best , no need to say it" I say putting on his leash so that I can take him to the park. As we get to the dog park I see the side walk filled with a handful of neighbors, it's a very typical family friendly neighborhood. Kids running down the street, mom's talking to one and other. "Hey!" a woman says approaching me. "Hi!" I respond as Max starts wagging his tale at the sight of a new face coming towards us. "You must be the new neighbor! Welcome to Evermore!" she says shaking my hand, a very clean and mature looking woman, eyes as blue as the sea, blonde wavy hair. "Yeah! we just moved into 1989, we saw the dog park and Max here couldn't wait to come check it out" I say smiling and shaking her hand. "Ugh that house is beautiful, I knew it wouldn't be on the market for more than a day. Im Alison i'm right next door to you" she says pointing at the beautiful victorian style house next to mine. "Nice to meet you Alison, Im James and this right here is Max" I say getting on Max's level. "My goodness Max you are just the most adorable puppy ever, yes you are" she says plain with max, I can already sense that this is gonna be a good neighborhood.
"Well welcome both to the neighborhood, what brings you into Nashville?" she says coming back up. " Oh i'm gonna be working at the hospital in downtown, i'm the new chief of trauma, we just came all the way from Chattanooga" I say petting max. "My god a trauma doctor, that is very very nice, this neighborhood has a couple of nurses but not a doctor, I find it fun to see the different professions in the community" she says giving me the biggest smile. "Nurses huh! maybe I can connect with them about the field haha" I say smiling back. "You most definitely can Rose and Jenna both work in the hospital you are gonna be at" she says pointing to the woman next to the playground. "Well James if you need anything at all, I am right next door. You and Max are welcome any time" she says petting Max and smiling at me. "Thank you Alison, I appreciate it very much" I say smiling. Max and I start walking towards the dog park, the air is cold, Tennessee really has a really beautiful autumn, to think that I almost moved to Florida is insane. Hours pass by and Max and I find our way into downtown, the nightlife is just as I remember when I used to visit during my college days, my best friend Jack and I would be out here till midnight and the occasional 2am extensions. He is gonna start working as a police officer for the city, having him here so close is a comfort because i'm trying not to get home sick on the first day.
We are passing by the Fire Station in the heart of the city, Station 13, its such a beautiful combination of new and older looking fire station, as we pass by a group of fire fighters start walking out from behind a fire truck, "Hey look, its a Dalmatian" I did find it funny that a firefighter and a Dalmatian happed to cross paths, "Max look, its firefighters" Max has this adorable obsession with the sound of the sirens when they pass by him, "My god look at you buddy. What's his name?" he says sitting on the floor to play with Max, "Max, he's very friendly so I apologize for any liquid accidents" I laughed at them, "Well that is absolutely ok Max, it's way better than ash and smoke" we all laugh, they are all so excited at the sight of Max, and Max himself is in a heaven of his own at the moment, "How old is he? he looks really young" he asked "He is five months old, we adopted him from a fire station in Chattanooga" I said looking at them "Station 20?" he asked looking at me. "Yeah actually" I say surprised "Yeah they are good people, we have some of their guys come over from time to time" he says standing up. "Where's Foster? he would love Max" he said looking at the guys next to him, "He was talking to Cap about tomorrows drill, oh wait there he is" they say looking towards the station, my jaw almost dropped, the most handsome man walked out of that office, tall, black hair hazel eyes, I swear i'm not the thirsty kind, but god damn.
