Sonic scoffs softly, it was almost inaudible, "What's down there?"

'My little home'

Shadow hums slightly, pondering the question himself, "Not sure. From what I can tell, it's an eternity of darkness. That decays all life."

'Rude, better not tell them'

"Game over! Why didn't you just follow me in?" Sonic questions both of us, I wasn't sure myself why Shadow cannot cross.

Shadow sighs, his voice gruff as if in a deep thought, "You two can get into those places, but I can't! With one exception."

I notice his glance at me, and I nod in acknowledgement. This is going to be hard for Sonic to see what has become of his friends.

"When you unleashed a shockwave from New Yoke, it blew us back to the outer reaches of the Void. And lead us here. And for reasons I haven't figured out yet, this Gateway let me in. Maybe it's because the shatter space isn't fully formed, or maybe it's decaying, I'm not sure. But it's not whole." The yellow gateway appears in front of us all, its bright glow warm and familiar.

Shadows' demeanor had changed just barely; I almost didn't notice, but he certainly became more tense. "Like a ghost." He finishes his previous statement.

"So, then... what is this place?"
"Come see for yourself." Shadow grabs my hand gently, intertwining our fingers together. Shadow flies into the yellow gateway. Sonic follows him closely, watching us, his face twisting.

Before we knew it, the soft breeze and fresh smelling air filled our noses, it wasn't familiar to me, but it was pleasant and welcomed.
Shadow helps me balance as we land, Sonic, on the other hand, is screaming the way down and smacks the ground pretty hard.

I hold back a laugh, covering my mouth, and turn to Shadow, who is shaking his head slightly while folding his arms.

"Whoa, this one looks like home!" He smiles as he explores the place, running through the Loop-de-Loop. "The Loop-de-Loop!" He catches sight of something and quickly speeds off, leaving Shadow and me alone with our thoughts.

"Now that he's gone er for the moment, we need to talk Y/N." His voice held a very serious tone, which goes to show he does care what Sonic thinks.

"I'm listening, what do you have in mind?" I query, but my nerves make my confidence falter. Twiddling my fingers against my quills, causing a slight bit more static.

"I have a plan, but I need it to work, and for it to do so, you need to leave, go back outside the gateway, and wait for me to return." He turns away, not wanting to see my upset reaction to his idea.

I scoff and turn my head, avoiding even looking at his form, the fact that he even asked me that. "Why- I can help, what use am I from the other side of the gateway-"

"I don't need your help," He cuts me off bluntly.
I frown and fight my turmoil, slightly stepping away from him as the breeze continues to blow.

"Shadow that's- that's just not fair, I can't help if you won't let me." My voice cracks, and I clench my fists.

"Y/N, listen, please, I just don't want to see you get hurt."

"Get hurt?! There's nobody here but us, how can? -" I feel my heart racing, my anger rising as Shadow just keeps the same expression, just a tad bit softer, he turns to face me completely.

"I told you I have a plan; do you trust me?" Shadow walks up to me, he bends down slightly to match my height, all while wearing a small smile on his face.

My face reddens and my heart continues to pound away like a drum, my mind draws a blank for a moment, and my ears flatter. "I... I do." I let out a breathy sigh and watch as he places a hand on my shoulder.

"I will tell you when to leave, I promise I will be alright. I am the ultimate lifeform." His smile bright, he corrects his posture and ruffles my quills.

"Whatever you say, Shadow, but I want you to promise when it comes down to a fight, that you will let me help you, this is my duty as the guardian, even-"

"Okay." He cuts me off his face, going back to its resting frown, but his chest heaved as he took a more relaxed breath.

"You didn't even let me finish my sentence?!" I scoff and roll my eyes; a playful smile takes over my face as the red hue continues now on both of our faces.

"I don't need you to, I trust you, but I need you to not get too close to Sonic, he's a bomb waiting to go off." Shadow's voice gruff yet again, it runs a shiver down my spine.

"How come?" I question, tilting my head slightly as we start to run off in the direction Sonic had gone.

"I... just don't like it. Now leave it alone Y/N we have shit to do." His voice was firm and unkind for a split second, but my facial expression brought him back to a kind smile.

I hum back, my heart agreeing with him, but my mind is trying to say something doesn't sound right. My face was still flushed as we now stood in front of Sonic, his face very grim.

'I can trust him'
