The Sakamaki mansion was a cruel place for games, but that never stopped the brothers from indulging in them, especially when the stakes weren't their own.

"Go on, I dare you." Laito's voice was a teasing lilt, dripping with amusement as he leaned closer to you. His fingers idly played with the brim of his hat, but his emerald eyes gleamed with something sharper. "Go up to Subaru and make him talk to you. Bet you won't last five minutes before he snaps."

You stiffened at the challenge, your gaze flickering toward the far end of the dimly lit lounge. There, half-hidden in the shadows, sat Subaru. His back rested against the cold stone wall, arms crossed over his chest, his silver hair falling messily into his crimson eyes. Even in his stillness, he radiated tension, like a beast waiting for something, someone, to set him off.

You knew Subaru's reputation. He wasn't like his brothers, who thrived on cruel games and endless teasing. No, Subaru was different, unpredictable, volatile. The others pushed his buttons for fun, but they always knew when to back off before things got bloody.

Your pulse quickened.

"What's the matter?" Ayato's voice broke through your thoughts, a smug grin curling at his lips as he sprawled across the couch. "Scared?"

Scared? Maybe. But more than that, you were intrigued. The thrill of it made something coil in your chest, a reckless curiosity, a hunger to see what Subaru would do when faced with something unexpected.

So you lifted your chin, squared your shoulders, and met Ayato's eyes with a smirk of your own.

"Fine," you said, voice steady despite the hammering in your chest. "I'll do it."

Laito let out a delighted hum. "Oh, this is going to be fun~"

Ignoring the way the others watched you like a pack of wolves waiting for the kill, you took a deep breath and stepped toward Subaru. Each footstep echoed through the lounge, the heavy silence pressing against your skin as you closed the distance.

Subaru didn't move. Didn't even acknowledge your presence until you stopped right in front of him.

Then, slowly, his gaze lifted.

A sharp, blood-red glare met yours, cutting through you like a knife. His lips parted slightly, irritation already settling into the creases of his brow.

"The hell do you want?" His voice was low, rough, a warning wrapped in gravel.

The weight of his stare sent a shiver down your spine, but you didn't back down. This was either the worst decision you'd ever made, or the most thrilling.

You held your ground, even as Subaru's gaze bore into you like a blade pressed against your throat. His crimson eyes flickered with annoyance, or maybe something darker.

"Well?" he muttered, voice laced with impatience. "Spit it out."

Your mind scrambled for something, anything, to say. You hadn't exactly thought this through beyond proving Ayato and Laito wrong. And now, standing this close, you could feel the raw energy radiating from Subaru, something barely restrained, like a storm moments before it hit.

You forced a smirk, trying to keep your heartbeat from betraying you. "What, I can't just come over and talk?"

A muscle in his jaw twitched. "Tch. Don't mess with me." His voice dropped lower, dangerous. "I know they put you up to this."

Shit. Of course, he knew. Subaru wasn't stupid.

He shifted, leaning forward just enough that the space between you felt thinner, charged. "You should turn around and leave before you regret it."

A warning. A chance to escape. But you weren't going to take it.

Something about the way he looked at you, like he was expecting you to run, made you want to do the opposite. You tilted your head, forcing a little playfulness into your tone, even as your pulse hammered in your throat.

"Why? Afraid I might actually want to be here?"

That got a reaction.

His eyes darkened, lips pressing into a thin line. The air between you thickened, a slow-building tension crackling like lightning.

Then, in one swift movement, Subaru grabbed your wrist.

His grip wasn't tight, but the cold press of his fingers against your skin sent a shiver down your spine. He pulled you forward—not roughly, but with enough force that you had no choice but to step closer, close enough to catch the faint scent of metal and roses clinging to him.

"You really don't know what you're messing with," he muttered. His voice was lower now, rougher, but there was something beneath it, something almost hesitant.

You swallowed hard, keeping your voice steady. "Then maybe you should show me."

A sharp exhale. A flicker of surprise in his crimson gaze, quickly buried beneath irritation.

Then, just as suddenly as he grabbed you, he let go.

"You're an idiot," he muttered, shoving his hands into his pockets. But he didn't move away. Instead, he lingered for a beat too long, like he was debating something.

Then, with one last look, he turned on his heel and walked away.

Leaving you standing there, your wrist still tingling from his touch, and the unmistakable feeling that you'd just cracked through something you weren't supposed to.

And that was the most dangerous part of all.
