"And that's the thing about illicit affairs. And clandestine meetings and stolen stares. They show their truth one single time. But they lie, and they lie, and they lie. A million little times"-ILLICIT AFFAIRS
I knew what he was doing was wrong. I told him he would regret it. Chasing two girl always meant losing the one. But did he listened? Of course not, it was James. James cheated on Betty, with the sweet blond girl, who I knew for a fact knew nothing about Betty. I told him he was going to get caught. He didn't care he just said "it's just a fun time, plus Betty is not here. How would she know?"
When he said he met a girl who was really pretty, I knew he wouldn't back out of this idiotic idea. I tried to tell the girl that James wasn't good news. But the girl was whipped. She followed James around and worshipped him like he was some god that did no wrong. I really felt bad for her, Augustine...
When I saw her waiting for him in that beach every damn day, I couldn't take it anymore. She didn't deserve this. Hell, no one deserved this. I needed to tell her he wasn't going to come back...
So I did.
I felt so guilty for not saying anything before. For being a coward. I saw the hope in her eyes die. The innocence of first love, dying. I knew it wasn't my fault, or maybe it was, I could've tried harder to stop James. I could've told her before she fell to hard. Thinking of the past was pointless, so after I told her I stood up and left. Not looking back, I knew if I did I would go back and try something I shouldn't. I didn't know the girl, I just knew she was hurt and that she didn't deserve this.
James was infact in town, though. I lied to her and I felt even worse now, knowing she would not be prepared to see him. I got inside the house and spotted James sitting on the couch, scrolling through his phone, like he hadn't just broken two girls' hearts.
He looked up from the screen before shutting it out and placing it on the small coffee table his feet were resting on. "Feet off my table, James." I said sitting on the other side of the couch.
"You look like shit." He said.
"Gee, thanks, dude. Just what I needed, why are you even here? Don't you have some girl to ask for forgiveness?" I asked. He has been calling Betty non-stop since Inez told her about his little 'fun time' with Augustine.
He sighed looking defeated. "Well she won't pick up the phone. I think she is avoiding me."
"Oh. You think?" I put as much sarcasm in my words as I could.
"What do you want me to do, Tristan! I made a mistake! I'm only seventeen, okay? And I'm human!" He snapped, suddenly defensive. He had no right to do that. Yeah, he made a mistake. A horrible and unforgivable mistake. One I didn't support, and he was like a brother to me. Yet, being brothers didn't mean I had to support every stupidity he did.
