⍟ Broken Strings {A Chaos Theory x Male Reader Story - Ben}

𝟼. 𝙰𝚕𝚕 𝙽𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝 𝙻𝚘𝚗𝚐

"Oh jeez, oh jeez, oh jeez!" Ben whines as another comes towards him, Kenji thwacking it out of the air.

"Sammy, get down!" Y/N urges, stepping in front of her to beat the dinosaurs down.

"Let me help!" Sammy pushes past, getting in the way of Y/N's next swing.

He moves to avoid hitting her and his feet get caught up under him, sending him tumbling backwards and over the edge.

"I got you!" Zayna calls, grabbing the oar and holding Y/N in place.

Darius and Sammy join the effort and help Y/N back up just as Zayna moves to whack a Dimoprphodons with a gas canister.

The rest of the dinos get the memo, flocking away in a large group to avoid the inevitable beat down.

"Woo! Yeah!" Kenji cheers.

"Kenji--" Y/N smacks a hand over his mouth.

Kenji pauses, his eyes shifting over to where everyone else is looking.

"What are those?" Sammy whispers, staring into the pairs of eerie glowing eyes.

"Lions." Zayna swallows hard.

They watch as a Dimoprphodons straggler cluelessly hops up from the grass, looking around for its pack. It doesn't end up finding it, however, as the lions pounce, dragging it into the jungle and tears it to shreds.

"If we had--" Sammy takes a shallow breath, "If that were us, we'd be dead."

"Zayna-- I'm so sorry. If we--" She sighs.

"I was upset. And I'm so sorry for how I treated you, you were being so confident and so brave and... I'm so proud of you."

"Do you forgive me?"

Zayna smiles, wrapping Sammy in a hug, "I forgive you."

𓆝 𓆟 𓆞 𓆝 𓆟

The engines sputter every now and then, causing Darius' eyebrows to knit further and further in concern with every rumble.

"That doesn't sound good." He sighs at the bumpy sound.

"Should we give the engines a break?" Ben suggests.

"What!?" Sammy whips around.

"No!" Kenji insists, "We have to keep going."

"Just a little longer." Sammy pleads.

"I don't think we have a little longer." Darius frowns at the shaky engine.

"We can't keep going if we don't have boats!" Ben pushes.

"We can't stop now!" Sammy argues.

"Yaz is out there." Kenji adds firmly.

"Everybody shut up!" Y/N shouts standing up.

"Y/N, I--"

"Sammy! Stop! Do you hear that?" Y/N puts a hand over her mouth and listens closely.

It's quiet for a moment, everyone straining to hear.

"Hello!?" Yasmina's voice calls from the nearby land, "Sammy!?"

They see Yaz run out into the open, rushing towards the water and Darius and Zayna rush the boats over to shore.

Sammy leaps out of the boat, rushing over to her girlfriend, "Yaz! You're alright!" She skids to a stop in the dirt, taking her girlfriend by the hands.

Yaz pants, sweating and looking like she saw a ghost, "...RUN!"

Sammy looks behind Yaz to see a large dinosaur sprinting after them. She pulls Yasmina out of the way as the creature snaps its jaws at them and the pair take off running back to the boats.
