"Heh heh..."
"Heheheheh..."
A strange, almost creepy laugh echoed through the classroom.

Every student turned to look at the back row, their expressions awkward and puzzled.

There, a boy had his head down on his desk, shoulders trembling as he let out weird giggles, clearly... thrilled.

"Chen Shu!"

The teacher's face darkened instantly as he snapped coldly from the podium.

But the only response was a chorus of "heh heh" laughter.

Homeroom teacher Mr. Li Yuan had finally had enough. He grabbed a piece of chalk and launched it toward Chen Shu.

Whoosh! Direct hit!
—Except... it hit the wrong person.

"Mr. Li... it wasn't me..." said Zhang Dali, face full of injustice. Even sitting still, he took a hit?!

"Wake Chen Shu up," Li Yuan said flatly, unfazed.

"Chen Shu! Chen Shu!" Zhang Dali shoved at his deskmate.

"Don't bother me... heh heh..."

But Chen Shu kept trembling and chuckling like some shady villain.

Seeing this, Li Yuan's face turned several shades darker. He was clearly on the verge of exploding.

Zhang Dali knew... something had to be done.

"...Class is over."

"Let's go!"

Chen Shu sprang to life like a beast released, launching himself up with such force that he even kicked his chair.

The entire class burst into stifled laughter.

Chen Shu looked around in confusion, half-awake.
Why's everyone laughing so hard?
Can't you be more mature, like me?

As he rubbed his eyes, a giant black face appeared in front of him.

"AHH! What the heck?!"

He jumped in fright—then realized who it was.

"G-Good morning, Mr. Li..."

"Nice dream?" Li Yuan's face was so dark it looked flammable.

"N-No... hehe..." Chen Shu shook his head fast, but the memory of the dream made him chuckle again.

Li Yuan took a deep breath, barely holding back the urge to explode.

"Dude... you're a legend," Zhang Dali whispered, full of admiration.

Chen Shu finally came to, sat upright, and zipped his mouth shut.

"Why were you sleeping in my class?" Li Yuan asked sternly.

As a student, isn't it logical to nap during math class? Chen Shu thought—but wisely kept that part to himself.

Li Yuan glared, then turned to the board.
"What's the answer to the question I just explained? Get it wrong and get out."

Chen Shu jolted. He rubbed his eyes... then stared at the board.

"In the early days of the Revival Era, what was the incantation used by Beastmasters to form a contract with their spirit beasts?"

He was completely stunned.

"Who am I?"
"Where am I?"
"What the hell is this??"

Wasn't this supposed to be math class?!
Wasn't Black Whirlwind Li Yuan the math teacher?!

Li Yuan's expression grew darker by the second, chalk crumbling in his grip.

At that moment, Chen Shu knew—he had to say something.

Incantation... incantation...

He blurted out the first thing that came to mind:
"Odd changes, even stays the same... check the quadrant for the sign?"

SLAM!

Li Yuan finally exploded, slapping the desk with a deafening bang.

"What the hell kind of answer is THAT?!"

"Wait, wait! One more chance!" Chen Shu pleaded.
"Essay questions aren't my thing—multiple choice is my specialty!"

"Multiple choice?! Is that all you know how to do?!" Li Yuan roared, making the floor tremble.

Ding! Beast Tamer Choice System activated!

A robotic voice rang out in Chen Shu's mind, and three glowing choices appeared in front of his eyes:

Option 1:
Admit your mistake sincerely.
Reward: Small amount of beast power.

Option 2:
Shrug and say, "I wanted to bond with you as a top student... but I'm just a total slacker. I'm coming clean."
Reward: Low-grade flame potion.

Option 3:
Remain silent and lower your head.
Reward: +1 Spirit Beast Loyalty.

Chen Shu blinked.
Main character aura?
This system... was clearly here to make him OP.

The rewards seemed weak, but the flame potion sounded the most useful.

He didn't even care what the options said—he only looked at the loot.

Following the sacred law of "if unsure, pick the longest one," he chose Option 2.

He stood up, calm and poised, glanced around the classroom like a politician inspecting his voters, and finally said:

"I came here wanting to bond with you all as a top student. But all I got in return... was distance."
He sighed dramatically.
"I'm coming clean. I'm a slacker. I know nothing."

Silence.
Total, complete, heart-stopping silence.

Even the air in the room seemed to freeze.

Everyone stared at Chen Shu with awe.
A legend in the making.

Who else dared mock the "Black Whirlwind" to his face?!

"Chen Shu. To the office." Li Yuan said with eerie calm.
The kind of calm that comes before a typhoon.

As the teacher left the room, Chen Shu fixed his collar.

"Choice complete! Reward: Low-grade Flame Potion!"
"Bonus reward for extreme courage: +1 Beast Loyalty!"
"Items added to your system inventory!"

He stepped out like a soldier headed to battle.

The whole class saluted him with their eyes, as if waiting for his glorious return.

And thus, a new chapter of blood and fire began.

In his absence, the classroom erupted.

"What the hell just happened? Did Chen go nuts?"
"Bro just stared death in the face and SMILED."
"Dali, you sit next to him. What gives?"

Though Chen Shu had a serious-sounding name, his brain worked on a totally different frequency.

Everyone called him Chen Pi (Chen "Peel")—because he was just too damn extra.

Zhang Dali puffed up his chest with pride.
"Hmph. I told you guys before..."

"He's insanely brave."
