"I know..." N finally spoke, "I...I don't deserve someone like you, Uzi. Especially not with how I've been treating you these past weeks. I'm so, so sorry. I've been so scared to tell you the truth, because I'm afraid that you'll hate me."
"N...what could possibly make me hate you?" Uzi asked, genuinely worried. What on robo-god's name has he been hiding from me?
N's shoulders were slumped with defeat, it's finally time to come clean, even if it means losing Uzi, he was going to lose her either way, "The truth...which I'll tell you, you've deserved to know it for a while now."
Uzi sat back down on the arm rest, suddenly wondering if she wanted to know, but she know there was no turning now, not when she was so close.
N brushed his fingers through his curly yet mattered hair. This was it, he was prepared to lose Uzi-but at the same time, not. "That talk with Nori, it did settle some things, so us dating isn't the problem anymore..."
"But..?" Uzi tried to coax him when he trailed off, somewhat happy that their relationship wasn't the issue, but very worried what else could be the problem.
"That talk revealed something else...something I won't blame you for hating me over. I-" N's voice caught in his throat as his hands began to tremble.
This was a horrible idea. What was he doing? He had to turn back. He can't lose Uzi. The pain would be too unbearable. But Uzi should know. She deserves to know. Please, just tell her!
Uzi immediately took notice and hesitantly reached over for his hands, not knowing if he'll pull back or not. "N...? H-hey it's ok, just calm down." N didn't seam to hear her, while his breath only quickened. Uzi sighed, "You know what...you don't have to tell me." N went rigid, she finally seemed to have gotten his attention, "I shouldn't have tried to pressure you into telling me what's wrong, that's not what a good partner would do. If you want to drop this then we can, I shouldn let you tell me in-"
"I KILLED NORI!"
Everything went silent, letting the two hear N's words echo through the deserted library.
It now felt like a million eyes were on them, but really, their only audience was the hundreds of books, silently waiting for the river of emotions to burst out of the purple drone.
But Uzi was just as still as they were. Her mind completely blank. No emotion brave enough to step forward and take control.
While N's emotions were going absolutely haywire, waiting for Uzi to snap, to yell at him, to blame him, maybe even hit him.
But instead, she began to laugh. Though not her malicious laugh, or a laugh of anger. Just a gentle, soft laugh-like N cracked a hilarious joke.
"Uzi?" N hesitantly called out, worried and very, very confused.
Uzi's laughing began to die down as she tried to catch her breath to speak. "E-N...was this what you've been worried about this whole time?" Uzi chuckled a bit more before fully collecting herself. "Did you think I was going to get mad at you?"
N hesitantly nodded, still worried if she was going to suddenly snap.
Instead Uzi brushed her fingers through her hair and sighed, "I guess I can't blame you, but N, I already knew!"
N felt his visor heat up in embarrassment as he played with the button on his jacket. There was some part of him that guessed she knew. But his fear and anxiety became too overpowering and just threw that thought out the window, "I...guess I didn't want to take any chances."
Uzi let out a tiny chuckle, "Yeah, I get that. I just wish you could've told me sooner, now we're just a complete mess."
"So...you're not mad at me?" N hesitantly asked.
"Of course not, you big doof." Uzi wrapped an arm around N in a side hug. "You didn't mean to kill my mom, you had no control back then. And besides, she's back now, practically from the dead."
N nodded, that was true, but it was still thanks to him that Nori wasn't present in most of Uzi's life. He took someone important away from her, when they should've been a happy family.
N snapped out of his thoughts when Uzi poked him lightly on his cheek. "N, hey, it's seriously ok. I'm not yelling at you, am I?"
"Which is a real shame," another voice joined in, coming from Uzi's tail. "I was hoping for a full blown meltdown, sinister giggle, would've been really entertaining."
As quick as it spoke, it was quickly shut up as Uzi grabbed a part of the ripped curtains-with her solver-and shut the tail's mouth closed. It struggled against it, but it was no use.
"If you really hate it that much then maybe you should learn to shut up!" Uzi snapped, as N let out a small snicker. Resulting in Uzi punching his shoulder playfully, "Hey, you wouldn't be laughing if you had a parasite forever connected to your butt!"
N chuckled again as he rubbed his hurt arm, "Alright, alright, sorry!" It felt like forever since since he had a good laugh, and it felt nice. Uzi seemed to feel the same way, as she looked more relaxed. Then N asked, "so, we're still a thing?"
"Of course!" Uzi reassured him, "And I'm sorry for threatening you that we wouldn't be anymore. I just had no idea how else to get you to spill. But it was still very cruel."
N smiled and leaned on her shoulder, "It's alright, I understand why you did it. I was just so scared that there wasn't going to be an us anymore." He glanced up at her, his tail wagging, "I love you, Uzi."
Uzi's visor flushed up and she scoffed to hide her flustered state, "That was so cringe." Though there was no malice in her voice, and there was a look in her eyes reflecting the love back.
Both of them went quiet again, but there was no tenseness in the air this time. It felt way more peaceful for the two, especially N, knowing that the secret was lifted off his shoulders, and that Uzi didn't hate him, now he can finally just relax in her arms as she played with his hair. Oh, how he missed this!
Oh, how he missed Uzi!
Though he wondered if Uzi would confront her mom about this. He didn't want Nori to be blamed for this. She just wanted to keep her daughter safe.
But he could worry about that later, as of right now, he just wanted to catch up on some personal connection with Uzi.
Then Uzi spoke, "Hey, N? Want to find a book about dogs?"
N perked up, "Really?" He murmured excitedly, his tail beginning to wag.
Uzi shrugged, "Why not? It's about time you shared your knowledge about dogs"
N nodded enthusiastically and was about to get up and find one. But Uzi pulled him back down, confusing N, until he saw her use her solver to bring the book over.
Uzi sat on N's lap as the disassembly drone laid his head on her shoulder, pulling her close, while his tail looped around one of her legs.
Uzi opened the 101 Dog Facts book and proceeded to read. While doing so, Uzi found a lot of similarities between some of the dogs and N, especially golden retriever. They were loving, loyal, playful, and very forgiving. All traits she saw in N.
N said his favorites were golden retrievers, and Uzi will have to admit that they were her favorite now too.
Uzi expected her first boyfriend to be more like her: cold, angsty, and quite. But her heart lead to the complete opposite, and she couldn't be happier.
They may have had a rough couple do weeks, but she wouldn't trade N for anything. She loved him, in all his golden, optimistic glory.
And she knew just how much N loved her back, and her angsty, teen heart was more then happy with that.
