A/n- of course I'll be going back through chapters as it's not proof checked properly 🫡
This story will have two endings. I hope to write both.
Story:
My eyes snapped open as I quickly began shuffling towards my closed window; opened it slightly, desperate to hear any explosions that could be used as distractions to get more time here but unfortunately today there seemed to be no battle, meaning no distractions.
I huffed in defeat. "Great." Spiteful sarcasm left my mouth.
A second after I had spoken was when a soft knock at the door was heard and Engie's soft Texan accent from the other side could be heard. "Y/n."
I grew worried that maybe he was coming here to speak with me about yesterday, I was hoping that he hadn't caught on and my selfish plan hadn't been noticed.
"You can come in." I said, trying to keep my composure.
He suddenly entered the room, closing the door quietly behind him.
He had a look of disappointment on his face. "I've spoken to you about leaving the room during a battle." If his eyes weren't covered by his goggles it was as if he was staring directly through my eyes and into my soul.
But I was also relieved to know he didn't expect it to be me that broke the machine. "Yeah sorry I just grew a bit worried when I heard sounds coming from your room."
He sighed in response and then proceeded to speak. "Well I've got some reassuring news." He began. "I should be able to complete the machine by tonight, meaning you'll be able to return home."
I desperately wanted to tell him that I didn't want to go back, but I didn't want to be seen as a burden. But I'm being a burden by breaking the machine... I can't keep this up surely. If only I could be emotionally honest. What's wrong with me? Besides. Even if I did tell him I didn't want to go home the assumption of who broke the machine would spin back round to me... Right...?
"I really am sorry it has taken this long hun."he seemed genuine, making me feel even worse for how I've been, guilt kept rising up from within me.
He quickly left in a hurry before I could say anything back.
I let out a long sigh of despair, scolding myself for what I had done and the stress that I had probably caused Engie for my own selfish desire of sticking around.
I exited my room, closing the door behind me, I was quite hungry so I made my way towards the kitchen to snoop for scran. I was eyeing up the cabinets and the fridge, unsure of what to eat or whether I should be in here without permission, they never really said make yourself at home. But then again they're under the impression that I want to go back to my home and they probably didn't expect me to stay here for as long as I have now.
My eyes uncomfortably shifted between the kitchen furniture when suddenly I felt a gloved hand upon my shoulder, I quickly spun around in a fright at the sudden physical contact only for my eyes to be met with Pyro' gas mask.
I beamed up at him. "Pyro! Good morning!"
"Huddah Huddah!" He responded, I didn't quite understand what he was saying but I assumed it was a response to what I had said. "Huddah Mmrgh?"
"What am I doing?" I repeated what I assumed he had asked. "I'm looking for food. But I don't know if anyone will be annoyed if I just take." (As if they're not going to be annoyed when they find out I was the one that broke the machine.)
Pyro put a singular finger in the air as he scurried further into the kitchen, he began opening and closing cupboards, he grabbed bread, butter and jam, placing two plates upon the side as he began to make the both of us jam sandwiches.
