Celestia's eyes glistened with unshed tears as she surveyed the aftermath of the battlefield beneath the silver moonlight. Her heart ached, a stark contrast to the cold, detached expression she usually wore as the Queen of the Night. Her long, black hair billowed in the gentle breeze, a dark shroud against her pale, moonlit skin. The ground was littered with the lifeless forms of soldiers and civilians alike, a grim reminder of the price paid for her protection. The smell of smoke and blood mingled with the scent of crushed grass, creating a noxious bouquet that turned her stomach.

Her gaze fell upon the ruins of a village, the once-bustling center of life now silenced by the chaos she had unwittingly brought upon it. The moon's soft glow revealed the horror she had wrought in an attempt to shield her own people. Buildings lay in shambles, the walls of once-cozy homes crumbling like sandcastles before a merciless tide. The cries of the injured and the mourning echoed through the night, a haunting melody that pierced her soul. She had never felt so alone, despite the power of the moon thrumming in her veins.

Ereb, his white and dark hair fluttering in the same breeze, approached her from the shadows. His footsteps were silent, as if the very night itself didn't wish to disturb her anguish. His eyes, deep pools of purple darkness tainted with gold, searched hers, and she could see the empathy and understanding within them. He had always had a way of reaching her, even when she had pushed everyone else away. His hand, warm and comforting, landed on her shoulder, and she flinched at the sudden physical touch amidst the cold, lifeless scene. "Tia," he said gently, using the name that only he was allowed to call her. "You did what you had to. You saved your people."

Celestia's eyes snapped to his, her voice trembling with anger and grief. "I've become a monster," she whispered. "I didn't want to kill them. They were just... people. "Ereb's grip tightened, and he stepped closer, his tall frame a stark silhouette against the moonlit ruins. "You are not a monster," he said firmly. "You are a protector, a guardian. Sometimes, the price of peace is paid in the coin of sacrifice."

Tears spilled down her cheeks as she stared at the devastation. The weight of her power, the powers she had inherited from her parents, felt like a boulder on her chest. She had never felt so out of control, so utterly overwhelmed by her own strength. Her mother had taught her to be precise, to use her power with care, but in the heat of battle, he taunt of enemies and the madness that lesson had been lost. Ereb's hand moved from her shoulder to gently cup her cheek, turning her face towards his. His gaze was soft, yet firm. "You must not blame yourself," he said, his voice a soothing balm to her raw nerves. "You were defending your realm. Your heart was in the right place, even if the outcome was not what you desired."

Celestia searched his eyes, finding the solace she had been seeking since her mother's passing. The love that had once been a distant concept began to unfurl in her chest, a warm glow that chased away the shadows of her doubt.

"How can you understand?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

"Because I see the light in you," Ereb replied, his thumb brushing away a tear. "The same light that guides my own path."

Their eyes remained locked, the tension in the air shifting from one of pain to something more profound, something that resonated in the deepest parts of their beings. Celestia felt a warmth spread through her, a gentle thaw of the ice that had encased her heart since the day her mother had died. Ereb's touch, his presence, it was as if he had unlocked a door she had not known was there, revealing a chamber filled with warmth and love she had long ago buried.

As she looked at him, she felt something within her give way. The wall she had built around her heart, brick by brick, to keep the pain and fear at bay, crumbled like the walls of the village around them. Her knees buckled, and she swayed on her feet, the weight of the madness, her grief and guilt suddenly too much to bear. Without a word, Ereb swept her up into his arms, cradling her against his chest as if she were made of the most delicate crystal. She didn't protest, instead leaning into his embrace, her eyes closing as she finally allowed herself to be vulnerable.
