The marble floors were slippery under my feet.

The noise repeated in my head.

Blinding, the walls were too white.
Pristine.
"This way, Miss."
I could hear the rumours floating around my head.
Tik. Tok. Tik. Tok.
A couple of ladies with headsets and clipboards rushed past. They made a double-take when they saw me.
It wasn't a clock anymore. It's the sound of my heart in my throat.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.
My face is covered in makeup and powder. I stared at my reflection in the mirror. I don't recognise myself.
The dread pooling in my stomach churned.
Thump. Thump. Thump. Thump.
"The others are waiting for you. The show starts in five, okay? This way."
What did Lloyd say?
The stage lights painted a white in my eyes and I blinked, waiting for my name.
"It's just like a performance. Smile and breathe."
"Please, welcome tonight's guest, Taylor Chen!"
I felt the applause vibrate through my body.

I faked a smile and stepped on stage.
