Dazai had been married to Fyodor Dostoevsky for three years, their union an unlikely but fiery partnership. Together, they had a daughter, Haruka Helena Dazai-Dostoevsky, a spirited three-year-old whose ability was a potent mix of her parents' powers. Her gift, aptly named "Strings of Paradox", allowed her to manipulate both human thought (a trait inherited from Fyodor’s "Crime and Punishment") and nullify abilities within a certain range (a nod to Dazai’s "No Longer Human").
Dazai adored Haruka with a love that seemed out of place for someone so deeply entrenched in darkness. Each day, he found himself sneaking out of Agency meetings or missions to spend time with her, raising suspicion among his colleagues. Kunikida, ever the perfectionist, had grown especially annoyed. "Dazai, this is the third time this week you've left in the middle of work. What's going on?" he demanded.
Dazai simply grinned. "Ah, Kunikida-kun, some things in life are more important than paperwork."
What no one at the Agency knew was that Dazai was living a life split between three worlds. On one side, he was a trusted member of the Armed Detective Agency, protecting Yokohama from the dangers of supernatural abilities. On the other, he was secretly working with the Decay of Angels, feeding information to Fyodor to help him achieve his mysterious goals. All the while, Mori Ougai, his former boss and the head of the Port Mafia, kept a watchful eye on him, grooming him to take over the Mafia at the age of 23.
Mori had long known about Dazai’s marriage to Fyodor and their daughter. While he disapproved of Fyodor’s involvement with the Decay of Angels, he saw Haruka as a potential asset and often volunteered to watch over her. To Dazai, Mori was more than a manipulative overlord; he was the closest thing to a father he had ever known, even if their relationship was steeped in manipulation and veiled threats.
The Agency, however, had begun to notice inconsistencies in their operations. Key details about their missions were leaking, and Dazai's frequent absences were becoming harder to ignore. Atsushi, who admired Dazai but was deeply concerned, started following him discreetly.
