She slammed the door roughly to its latch.  Clenching my mouth and dropping my smile that I tried to plaster on to say 'don't worry I'm not like them I'm just like you' with. Instead, the locals took to thinking I was a fool. Not just for being on the Island when all of their men had to leave for work, but for smiling at them, beaming when they shouted or laughed and shut their doors.  For the third time that day I closed my eyes to curse Mr Burke leaving the Island for the winter months. At least before he went could he have not made the Islanders see that I would be in charge? Stepping of the doorstep and opening my eyes I looked over across the valley.
