She huffed but couldn’t suppress the smile tugging at her lips. Whatever he was planning, it was clear he was enjoying himself.
As the day wound down, Jisoo found herself growing more curious than concerned. Taehyung’s affection and attention had never wavered, and while he was clearly hiding something, she trusted him implicitly.
That night, as they lay in bed, Taehyung pulled her close, his arms wrapped protectively around her.
“Two days,” he whispered, his lips brushing against her hair.
“Two days until what?” she asked, her voice soft with curiosity.
“You’ll see,” he replied, a smile in his voice.
And though her mind raced with possibilities, Jisoo couldn’t help but feel a thrill of excitement. Whatever Taehyung had planned, she knew it would be worth the wait.
Next morning the sun rose over the sprawling estate of Mrs. Kim, bathing the home in warm, golden light. The peaceful morning was accompanied by the gentle hum of birdsong and the faint clinking of dishes being set for breakfast.
Jisoo stirred awake in the guest bedroom, the soft sheets crumpled around her. She stretched lazily, her mind still clouded with sleep, but the familiar feeling of unease tugged at her chest.
Taehyung had already left, his side of the bed cold. He had whispered the night before that he and Jungkook needed to take care of some "errands," but he had been secretive about the details.
Jisoo trusted him, of course, but his recent clandestine behavior combined with her own lingering unease made her restless.
She shook off the thoughts, splashed cold water on her face, and joined Mrs. Kim for breakfast in the sunlit dining room.
“Good morning, my dear,” Mrs. Kim greeted warmly as Jisoo entered, her elegant frame seated at the head of the table. She gestured for Jisoo to sit. “Did you sleep well?”
“Yes, thank you,” Jisoo replied, her voice polite but subdued. She sipped the tea that had been poured for her, letting the warmth seep through her hands.
Mrs. Kim studied her closely. “You seem a little pale. Is everything alright?”
Jisoo hesitated, offering a small smile. “I am fine, just a little tired. Maybe it’s all the traveling.”
Mrs. Kim’s brow furrowed, concern creeping into her expression, but she didn’t press further. Instead, she steered the conversation toward lighter topics... plans for the weekend, stories from Taehyung’s childhood, and fond memories of family gatherings.
Yet, as much as Jisoo tried to focus, she felt increasingly detached. The unease that had been a dull thrum in the background was growing stronger, spreading through her like a shadow.
Halfway through their conversation, a wave of nausea washed over Jisoo, sudden and overwhelming. She gripped the edge of the table, her knuckles turning white.
“Jisoo?” Mrs. Kim’s voice was sharp with worry. “Are you alright?”
“I...I think I need a moment,” Jisoo managed, pushing her chair back. She hurried from the room, barely hearing Mrs. Kim call after her.
Jisoo reached the nearest bathroom just in time, her stomach twisting painfully. She leaned over the sink, clutching the edge for support as the nausea subsided. Cold sweat clung to her forehead, and her heart raced.
What’s happening to me? she thought, panic creeping in.
Outside the bathroom door, Mrs. Kim hovered anxiously. “Jisoo? Darling, are you alright? Please, open the door.”
After a moment, Jisoo opened it, her face pale and her hair slightly disheveled. “I am fine,” she said weakly, though her trembling hands betrayed her.
Mrs. Kim stepped closer, gently placing a hand on her shoulder. Her gaze was both concerned and searching, and after a brief silence, her expression softened with realization.
“Jisoo,” she said slowly, her voice gentle but firm. “Could it be... are you pregnant?”
Jisoo blinked, the question hitting her like a bolt of lightning. “Pregnant?” she echoed, her mind racing. It hadn’t even crossed her mind, yet as the word lingered in the air, pieces began to fall into place...the unease, the fatigue, the nausea.
Mrs. Kim smiled knowingly. “A mother’s intuition is rarely wrong, my dear. Let’s call the doctor and find out for sure.”
Within an hour, the family doctor arrived, carrying a small medical kit. Mrs. Kim ushered Jisoo into the sitting room, where the doctor conducted a few tests. The room was quiet except for the ticking of a nearby clock, each second feeling like an eternity.
Mrs. Kim sat beside Jisoo, holding her hand tightly. “Whatever the result, know that we’ll face it together,” she said softly.
Jisoo nodded, though her nerves were written all over her face.
When the doctor finally returned with the results, she wore a warm smile. “Congratulations, Mrs. Kim,” she said, looking between the two women. “You’re expecting a baby.”
Jisoo’s breath caught, her hand flying to her mouth as tears filled her eyes. “I am... I am going to be a mother?” she whispered, as if saying it aloud would make it more real.
Mrs. Kim let out a joyous laugh, pulling Jisoo into a tight embrace. “Oh, Jisoo, this is wonderful news! Taehyung is going to be over the moon!”
Jisoo, still overwhelmed, wiped her tears and laughed shakily. “I can’t believe it. I don’t even know how to tell him.”
Mrs. Kim’s eyes sparkled with excitement. “Let’s tell him now! We’ll call him and...”
“No,” Jisoo interrupted, shaking her head with a playful but determined smile. “Not yet. Let’s keep this between us for now. I want to surprise him tomorrow...on our anniversary.”
Mrs. Kim nodded approvingly. “You’re full of surprises, my dear. Alright, we’ll keep it a secret. But only until tomorrow!”
As the day unfolded, Jisoo found herself in a state of happy disbelief. She placed a protective hand over her stomach, a soft smile playing on her lips. The unease that had plagued her for days was gone, replaced by an overwhelming sense of love and anticipation.
She imagined Taehyung’s reaction...the joy in his eyes, the way he would pull her into his arms. She thought about how their lives were about to change, how their love had created something so miraculous.
For the rest of the day, Mrs. Kim couldn’t contain her excitement, doting on Jisoo at every opportunity. Though they kept the secret between them, the air in the house seemed to buzz with anticipation.
As evening approached, Jisoo stood on the balcony, looking out over the city lights. Her hand rested gently on her stomach, and a tear slipped down her cheek...not from sadness, but from the overwhelming joy of knowing that she and Taehyung were about to embark on a beautiful new chapter in their lives.
