"Please...please, I need to know-" his voice broke at the end as a sob threatened clog up his throat. His grip on the table tightened like it was the only thing keeping him stable. Tears pricked at the edge of his optics, which made Nori feel sympathetic toward the murder drone.
For a moment, Nori wanted to lie to him. To not add anymore suffocating pressure to his already crumbling wall of his emotions. But by the look on his face, he already knew the truth, so it was no use lying to him.
Nori let out a heavy sigh, "It was you. N."
N's shaking immediately stopped, going as still as a statue. His frantically darting eyes locked onto Nori, but she wasn't sure if he was actually staring at her, his consciousness lost in what had just been revealed.
Before reality crashed down on the disassembly drone like a ton of bricks and he crumbled to the floor. Violent sobs wracked his body as he wrapped his arms around himself, a feeble attempt to keep himself stable, but wasn't working as tears continued to flow down his visor.
He knew the only course of comfort would be Uzi, but he didn't deserve her. He killed her mom. He was her mother's murderer.
N was always aware that Nori was killed by a disassembly drone, she said so herself. But he never thought that it was him. He secretly hoped that it was V or J, though he knew that it was a selfish thought and he always felt guilty for thinking like that. That's why he never thought about Nori's death. Locking the terrible truth deep down, but it always plagued the back of his mind, taunting him, toying with him, and it turned out to be true.
Nori, not entirely sure what to do, hopped down from the table and stepped in front of N. "Hey, kid, it's ok." She wasn't really the best at comforting. With her years being alone, she didn't really get much experience.
No it's not! N wanted to yell, but his sobs clogged his throat, choking back any words he wanted to say. None of this is ok!
What would Uzi think? She should know that a disassembly drone killed her mother, but did she know that it was him? Would she see him as a monster again? Would she leave him?
That was the most terrifying thought. They had fought so hard to be together. Now there was this obstacle thrown right in front of him after just jumping over one with Nori, and N wasn't sure if he would be able to do it again with this one.
Why would Uzi want to be with her mother's murderer? She had every right to to leave him. She could even have him and V kicked out of the colony.
N felt a soft tap on his leg and opened his watery optics to meet with Nori's. "Listen, kid, you have to calm down, try and focus on your breathing."
N did as he was instructed, not realizing how uneven his breathing was. After a few moments of slowly inhaling and exhaling, he was able to calm down enough to think straight. The tornado of thoughts calming down to a steady breeze. But that didn't stop the dark thoughts of Uzi hating him from threatening to make him break down again.
Nori seemed to have read his mind and spoke, "I'm sure Uzi will still love you."
"But why..?" N's voice came out husky and broken. "I-I killed you, her mother, why wouldn't she want to...leave me if she knew that?!"
The room went quiet, the only sound coming from N's small hiccups. After a moment, Nori broke the silence.
"Then we won't tell her."
N's gaze snapped up, his breath hitching a little. "W-we can't do that, that would be too big of a secret to keep from her!"
"Yes, but one that will keep a huge burst of drama behind closed doors. Come on, life could be so much easier if Uzi didn't know. Beside, it seems that she still blames humans and now Cyn, so why not keep it that way?"
N began to tremble again, could he really keep something like this from Uzi? It didn't help that he wasn't the best at keeping secrets, and now it was one that could break their relationship. But on the other hand, why start up trouble when there didn't need to be. Everything could go back to normal if he pretended that he didn't just get world ending information.
It just felt wrong. Having Uzi continue dating her mother's murderer without realizing it. But if Nori thought it was for the best, then maybe it was.
N let out a shaky sigh. "Alright, I...I won't tell her."
Nori gave the disassembly drone a sympathetic look. "Thank you, I know I'm asking a lot from you."
N slowly got up, his legs shaking in the process like the guilt was trying to pull him down. "I really hope you're right about this."
Me too. But Nori kept that to herself. Not wanting to make N anymore anxious.
They waited for N to get a solid grip on his emotions before Nori climbed on one of his shoulders and the disassembly drone lead them out of Khan's office.
Uzi was still on the couch, along side her dad. Both had mended their relationship enough to have a solid conversation, while Uzi's tail had to listen without making any comments thanks to the cloth wrapped around its mouth.
Uzi was the first to snap her gaze to the pair. She stood up, hope sparking in her core as she saw Nori on N's shoulder, taking that as a good sign.
Nori caught onto Uzi's eagerness to know the answer and she gave a small nod. "I've decided to let you two stay together."
Uzi's usual angsty personality was thrown right out the window when she jumped into N's arms happily. N wrapped his arms around her in a hug, hoping that it reflected some sort of joy as well, and hid the weight of the secret he was wearing like rusted armor on his shoulders.
Ooooooo cliff hanger lol
Yeah I know that the show kinda dismissed this topic and really none of the characters would care if it was true-knowing this show. But I kinda just wanted to play with it, and y'all will get to see how it ends in the next part :3
Again I'll try and get it out as soon as I can-
