The golden hue of the setting sun bathed the sleek penthouse in a warm glow. You hummed softly as you moved around the kitchen, your bubbly personality filling the otherwise silent home. Taehyung, your enigmatic husband, sat at the dining table, his laptop open and his brow furrowed in concentration. The stark contrast between your lively demeanor and his introverted nature had always been a puzzle to outsiders, but it worked for you—until recently.
"Tae," you chirped, placing a glass of water beside him, "are you sure you don't want a break? You've been glued to that screen for hours."
Taehyung's deep voice rumbled as he replied without looking up, "Deadlines don't wait, you know that."
You pouted but didn't push further, instead settling on the couch with a book. Despite his cold exterior, Taehyung had moments that melted your heart. Like last week, when he'd left a handwritten note on your pillow: "Don't let the world dim your shine." It was those moments that made you fall deeper in love with him.
An hour passed in silence, the only sounds being the clacking of Taehyung's keyboard and the occasional rustle of your pages. Just as you were getting lost in your novel, your phone buzzed. It was a message from your best friend, Minji.
Minji: "Hey, you won't believe what I heard about Taehyung today. Call me ASAP."
Curiosity piqued, you glanced at Taehyung, who was still immersed in work, and slipped into the bedroom to make the call.
"What's up, Minji?" you asked cheerfully.
Her voice was laced with hesitation, "I don't know if I should tell you this, but since you're my best friend, I can't keep it from you. There are rumors going around the office about Taehyung..."
Your heart sank. "What kind of rumors?"
Minji's voice lowered as if someone might overhear. "People are saying he's... involved with someone else. I don't believe it, but I thought you should know."
Your stomach churned. Taehyung? No way. Yet the seed of doubt was planted.
"That's ridiculous," you said, though your voice lacked conviction. "Taehyung would never do that."
"Of course not," Minji agreed too quickly. "But you should keep an eye out, just in case."
Hanging up, you tried to shake off the unease. Minji had to be mistaken. Taehyung might be cold at times, but he wasn't a liar. Still, the words replayed in your mind as you returned to the living room.
"Everything okay?" Taehyung asked, his gaze briefly meeting yours.
You forced a smile. "Yeah, just Minji being dramatic as usual."
He raised an eyebrow but didn't press further. Yet, as the evening wore on, you couldn't ignore the tiny crack that had formed in your trust.
Later that night, as Taehyung worked late in his study, you lay in bed staring at the ceiling. The penthouse, once a sanctuary, now felt heavy with unspoken tension. You shook your head, trying to push the thought away. But then you remembered something Minji had said: "I heard it from someone reliable."
Could there be truth to her words?
To be continued...
