As Oswin stepped into the ballroom of the palace, the room was bright, glowing with color, and the air was filled with a shimmering light. Walls were lined with the scent of exotic perfumes and the faint whispers of magic that seeped through every corner of Valoran. His bright eyes widened, taking in the richness that surrounded him—crystal chandeliers casting a kaleidoscope of light across marble floors, tapestries woven with threads of gold depicting ancient legends, and the sea of people dressed in flowing dresses and tailcoats.

Oswin's fair hair subtly glowed as he moved through the crowd. Despite his age, he was well-known among his peers. He inclined his head graciously to a cluster of familiar faces, offering a warm smile that spoke of his inherent idealism.

"Lady Adelina, how delightful to see you," he said, his voice refined and proper. "I trust the evening finds you well?"

The older woman's eyes crinkled with fondness. "Lord Oswin, you're a breath of fresh air in these rather stuffed-up gatherings. Tell me, what ideas have you heard from others? News of trade?"

Oswin chuckled softly, a faint blush coloring his cheeks. "Oh, the usual, I'm afraid. Trade with the West, but nothing worth troubling you with My Lady. I hope your evening is well" He bowed his head to her before walking off.

As he continued to navigate the room, exchanging pleasantries and engaging in conversations, he found himself drawn to the discussions around him. His ears perked up at mentions of trade agreements, innovations, and the welfare of the common folk. Each topic sparked a spiral of thoughts in his mind, ideas of how he might contribute to better his family name.

"If only we could channel more resources into education," he spoke to himself, his brows furrowed slightly. "Surely, with knowledge comes understanding, right?"

A familiar laugh from nearby caught his attention, and Oswin turned to see Lord Zepeda, a nobleman known for his advancements in trade.

"Ah, Mr. Callahan!" Lord Zepeda shouted, patting Oswin on the shoulder. "Still filling your head with these lofty ideals, I see. When are you going to join us in the real world? Perhaps stop talking to yourself?"

Oswin smiled politely, though his eyes betrayed him with a slight glare. "My lord, I believe there's room for both, do you not agree? Perhaps a balance of the two could lead us to even greater wealth?"

As Lord Zepeda launched into a spirited rant on the merits of practical governance, Oswin listened intently, his mind filled with counterarguments though he did not dare speak them.

"You raise valid points, My lord," Oswin said carefully, each word weighing on him. "But might I suggest that investing in the well-being of all our citizens could yield long-term benefits that far outweigh short-term gains?"

The lord's eyebrows raised in shock, a grudging respect glimmering in his eyes. "Well, well, it seems there's more to you than just a pretty face and dreams of nonsense, Mr. Callahan. Perhaps you'll make your mark on Valoran sooner than we thought."

As the conversation drew to a close, Oswin excused himself, his heart racing out of fear, though his back straightened as he stood proudly.

He moved towards a quieter corner of the ballroom, his mind rushing with the new ideas he was hearing and the exhilaration of having held his own in debate with such a nobleman.

"There's so much potential, so much I could do!" he thought, gazing out at the stars. "If only I could convince them of my ways."

With his unwavering determination, Oswin straightened his posture and prepared to rejoin the fae, ready to listen, learn, and perhaps plant the seeds of the brighter future he so fervently believed in.
