"Well, if it isn't Mr I'm Not A Hero. What can I get you?" I asked, with a heavy sigh.

He groaned loudly and acutely with disdain, so loud, that it was hard to miss.

So was the accompanying eye roll.

"Four beers, please." He said, pushing a twenty dollar bill across the bar, avoiding my gaze.

I moved around the bar, setting four bottles on the bar in front of him, before swiping the bill from the bar.

I rang it through the till, before handing him his change, and he eyed me carefully.

"Do you need something else?" I asked, looking all around me.

"Nothing at all." He said, with a shake of his head.

"It's just that you're still standing here." I said.

"I'm a paying customer, I can't just stand here for no reason at all? No?" He asked.

"Be my guest." I said, with a shrug.

His eyes were dark, as dark as the night sky, gorgeous really, hard to look away from.

He eyed me carefully, turning to leave, before hesitating, his lips parting to speak.

"You struggle to make friends, don't you?" He asked suddenly, as I chuckled in disbelief.

"Whatever gave you that idea?" I asked.

"Just a hunch." He said.

"It's not that I struggle to make friends, I just don't want any. Never made many in the various schools I wound up in, didn't see the point." I said.

"And that has nothing to do with your sunny disposition, right?" He asked, sarcastically.

"Oh, no, nothing at all. More to do with the numerous foster homes I bounced in and out of." I said, tersely.

"I guess you thought you'd struck gold when you met Alex Tozer." He said, as my jaw clenched.

"I wasn't interested in their money. I wanted an actual family. Be careful what you wish for, I guess." I said.

"Although, if I'd had three wishes, or a wish at all, I'd have wished for someone a little braver to have been there, to at least attempt to bail me out, or stop it from happening." I added.
