|^|His Little Butterfly|^| -The Amazing Digital Circus

Start from the beginning

"He? D-do you mean, Kinger?" Panic bubbled in Pomni's chest. She knew he was a bit out of it, but not THAT unstable.

"The kingdom needs a stable foundation." Queenie answered indirectly. "The kingdom needs you."

Pomni shifted on her feet nervously. "W-what can I do? I'm about on the edge as Kinger is. How can I help him if I can barely help myself?"

"You've done the deed before, you can preform it again." The queen's eyes softened, and for a moment, her royal persona dropped. "Please, for my husband, he needs you, he needs his little butterfly."

Pomni blinked. Did she really mean that much to the king chess piece? The only time they got to really know each other was on last Caine's adventure, did she really become something important to him in that little moment?

Well, she guessed it was the same feeling on the other end. So, now knowing Kinger could be close to abstracting, she knew she had to do something. "Alright, I'll see what I can do."

Queenie relaxed at this. "Thank you, Pomni, you are truly a blessing for our kingdom."

A small blush crept on Pomni's face at the praise. "Don't thank me yet, I haven't even done anything."

"You've done enough," if Queenie had a mouth she would've given Pomni a soft, encouraging smile. "You must go now, complete your quest, save the kingdom."

Pomni gasped as she startled awake. Queenie's last words ringing in her ears like some sort of prophecy. She blinked a few times, letting her eyes adjust to the dark.

The small jester laid in bed for a few moments, trying to comprehend what just happened. Was it just a dream? Did it really mean anything? Did she actually talk to the lost, Queenie? Could it all just have been fake?

Even with all these doubts, anxiety ate at her more and more as she thought about Kinger. The thought that he could be in trouble, that he's going insane, that he could be the next one to abstract.

That finally kicked something in Pomni and she sat up straight, throwing her blanket to the side and hoping out of bed. She wasn't going to let Kinger abstract, not yet, if Queenie foretold that Pomni could save him then she's going to have to do everything in her power to fulfill it.

Pomni slowly opened her door and peaked out into the dark, empty hallway. When she didn't see anybody she stepped out and closed the door with a soft click. She began to tiptoe her way through the hall of the characters rooms, not wanting to wake anyone up—especially Jax.

Instead of heading for Kingers room she headed out to the main circus area, that was nearly picthblack thanks to the night setting, knowing that the king chess piece would most likely be in his pillow fort.

It didn't take long for the little jester to find the fortress of pillows, with a small, soft glow peaking through the cracks, signing that Kinger was awake.

Not entirely sure where the entrance was of the little fort, Pomni decided to just give one of the pillows a gentle knock like a door and softly called out. "Kinger?" For a few moment, nothing happened, and Pomni thought that maybe the chess piece didn't hear her. But when she was about to call again, one of the big pillows began to shift and move out of the way, and Kinger's head peaked out.

Pomni thought that she was about to be greeted with a scream of terror and a demand of who she was, but instead she got a blink of surprise and a soft,"Oh, Pomni, what are you doing up so late?" He then inhaled worriedly. "The bugs weren't biting, were they?"

Pomni chuckled nervously, realizing that she didn't know how to explain why she was here. Should she tell him about Queenie? How his wife somehow visited her in her dreams?  "N-no, I just-uh...couldn't sleep."
