Chapter 21-Left Out

Start from the beginning

"You really have to get the basics first before getting deeper into calculus," Jun nodded at me. "As long as you get it, I'm pretty sure you'll pass your exam later."

"I want you to ace it though," Sarah told me, wiggling her eyebrows at me as we stood up from our seat. "Do your best later, okay?"

"Yes, sensei!" I answered, giving her a salute. Jun chuckled and I looked at him. "I got it, right? Sensei means teacher?"

"Hai hai." He answered, nodding at me.

"That means 'yes', right?" I asked and he nodded once again. "That's all that I know in Japanese."

"Well, I know kawaii," Sarah told me as she linked her arms with me. "It means cute."

I nodded and looked back at Jun. "Jun, Sarah is kawaii, right?"

Sarah immediately blushed. She discreetly nudged me, obviously wanting me to stop. I wouldn't not until I get an answer from Jun.

"Y-yeah," He answered, his cheeks were blushing a little. I can't help but giggle at them. "but subarashii* and utsukushii** is better, I guess."

"What does that mean?" I asked, as we continued to walk back to our building.

"We should go to our respective classes now." Jun told, obviously not wanting to share what it actually means.

"I agree," Sarah agreed, unlinking her arms with mine. "My room is that way."

"Alright, bye!" I bid her goodbye as she waved at us before walking briskly towards the general direction of her room.

"Seriously, Jun, if you like her, just go tell her." I told Jun tapping her shoulder. He gave me an impassive look.

"Coming from you, really?" He mumbled, shaking his head.

"What is that supposed to mean?"

"Nothing?" He chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. "I'll be going now."

When I entered the classroom in our Calculus class, Sam was already seated next to Drake. Sam immediately waved her hand at me. She then offered the vacant seat next to her.

"Why didn't you text me?" I asked discreetly. I had to keep my voice down so as not to let Drake hear our conversation.

"Sorry," Sam mumbled, giving me an awkward smile. "You get the reason why, right?"

"Of course, I do," I told her, staying calm. "I just hope you didn't let me look stupid back in the cafeteria waiting there."

"Sorry," She apologized leaning her head on my shoulder. "I'll treat you ice cream later on. You want?"

"Bribery," I snorted, shaking my head. "But sure, a cup of mocha or coffee crumble will do."

"Hey," Drake called making us look at him. He was looking straight at my blue eyes before he spoke again. "Why didn't you come in the library?"

"Uh—" I glanced at Sam. She was looking at me like she wanted me to lie. "I was so hungry. Plus, I have totally forgotten about it."

"That's why I told Sam to text you," Drake said. I just noticed how he called Sam by her nickname. He didn't refer to her as Samantha or your friend anymore. "I left my phone at home."

"M-my phone is low bat right now." I lied. He just nodded at me before sat back properly on his chair.

Mr. Cooper then entered our room. Everyone went back to their seats as Mr. Cooper placed his bag on his table. He then pulled out some papers which was obviously our exam papers.

"Alright class, clear your tables," He instructed as he sat on his table. "I don't want to see anything there except for your pen."

"Are we not allowed to use our calculators, sir?" Sam asked, raising her hand up. Mr. Cooper looked at her direction, an eyebrow raised.

"It's a piece of cake, Ms. Dawson," Mr. Cooper answered, smiling. He then stood up and walked towards the first column, distributing the questionnaires. "At least for those who listened and studied for our exam."

"Good luck." I whispered to Sam, winking at her.

"Good luck!" She winked back at me as she took the questionnaire that was handed to her.

After our quiz, I felt confident. I was confident with my answers. I was sure on most of them and failing it would be such a shame. Mr. Cooper wasn't kidding when he told us that it wasn't hard for those who had understood the lesson but it really wasn't a piece of cake.

I went straight home after Physics class. I told Samantha to just save the ice cream next time. I didn't know. I just didn't feel like waiting for Samantha for today. Okay, maybe I just felt bad. I felt like she purposely left me out today so she could be alone with Drake.

I get it. I just hoped she had warned me. She should have warned me instead of making me look stupid in our table waiting for her to be there. I had to act in front of Jun and Sarah that I wasn't a bit affected by it. Lastly, I felt bad about lying to Drake.

My phone rang distracting me from my thoughts. I rolled off my bed and grabbed my phone. Drake's name was flashing on my phone's screen. I answered.

"Hello?"

"Hi," He greeted. "Uh, what's up?"

"Are you okay?" I chuckled at how weird his question was. "What's up? Are you drunk or something?"

"No," He immediately answered and I could imagine him shaking his head. "We weren't able to talk after class. That's all."

"Oh, okay," I bit my lip. He noticed. "I—I just uh want to go home."

"I noticed," He chuckled. "You may have eaten something bad."

"No!" I told him, making him laugh on the other line. "My stomach is completely fine."

"Sure," He chuckled. God, did I ever mention that his voice sounded really sexy over the phone as well? "How did you do in the exam?"

"Calc?" I asked as I sat properly and leaned my back on the headboard. "It was fine. I think I passed."

"That's great," I heard him mumble. I could picture him smiling as he uttered those two words. "I was worried because you didn't review with us during lunch that you might have forgotten the topic."

"I was able to review a bit earlier." I told him honestly, recalling Jun and Sarah's help earlier. They would write down a problem and would ask me to solve it. It was fun but not as fun with him.

"By the way, I think I can't teach you on Saturday," He said his voice sounded apologetic. He would be going out on another date with Sam. "I will be meeting up with Sam this Saturday."

"I know," I answered. I didn't really want him to explain it any further. Either I didn't want him to have a hard time saying it or I just didn't want to hear it from him. Then I lied. "It's okay."

"Would you like to come with us?" He asked and I almost wanted to say yes. But of course, for Sam's sake, I wouldn't.

"I have plans too on Saturday," I lied as I glanced at my calendar. It was rather empty but I had to lie. "You two should enjoy."

"I see,"

"Yeah."

"Okay."

"Um, bye?"

"Yeah, bye."

"Bye."
