"Alicia?" He whispered out. His arms reached out to wrap them around her waist but as soon as he did, her body disappeared into thin air. A lone tear slipped from his eyes and down his cheek when the realisation dawned upon him.

"What even is wrong with me dude? Why do I see her everywhere?" He mumbled with a pretty frustrating tone of voice. His fingers brushed through his hair aggressively.

"I'm sure it'll be fine, you're just grieving," his best friend said out loud, trying to comfort him by reaching a hand out towards him.

"I..." His eyes quickly dart to the lone customer standing in front of the cashier. "Do you see her?" He points to the woman standing there, her back facing them.

"Yeah, it's just another customer, what's wrong?"

"She... It's her... Look she's wearing that scarf I gifted her... She's always loved it!"

His demeanor immediately shifted to a happy one as he got up to approach the woman. His best friend reaches out to quickly hold his hand, stopping him in his tracks. Just then, the woman turns around to reveal her face.

"Look, it's not Alicia, and it's not the scarf you gifted her! You need to move on, this is getting ridiculous!"

"Fuck!" He mumbled out under his breath.

---
"Alicia?" He whispered out. His arms reached out to wrap them around her waist. His chin rests on her shoulder while her hands lay on his.

"I get you've missed me?" She gave out a painful chuckle while turning around to look at him. Her hands rest on his chin, cupping it.

He hummed in response. A quick peck on her lips is all that he is able to manage before she takes a step back, peeling his hands away from her.

"You know I love you, right?" She mumbled out, her hands fidgeting with her simple while dress.

"You know I do... And I... Don't think I could... love anyone more," his voice breaks slightly. "Why did you have to leave?"

"You know, life is kind of funny... One day you're just there and the other, we have to say goodbye forever," she gave out another painful chuckle.

"Do you...? Why...?" His voice breaks more and a lone tear escapes from his eyes.

She hums in response. She holds his hand and leads him to a large lake. As they walked there, she intertwined their fingers and wrapped her arms around his, one last time.

As they reach the lake, both distraught with the realisation of the implications of that meet, they sit down at a rock directly facing a large tree on an island placed directly in the middle of that lake. She points to a lone branch at one end of the tree and then at another, one that seemed to have started its journey with the lone branch but was stunted midway.

"You see, we can never control how long the branches of a tree grow out to be and how long they stay. We can always nurture them, and hope to have them grow longer, make the tree more beautiful with all of its glory, give the birds a place to rest... But that's all that is, hope... Some branches are just never able to grow and that's all that is... Some are destined to live only to a certain length to let the others spread their veins... And that's all they do, act as support for the other branches to find their footing and allow for the leaves and birds to latch on and grow themselves.... And some others, are meant to fall before their time is due"

"What are you saying? What does the tree have got to do with anything?" She rests her head on his shoulder with a long sigh.

"Perhaps, it was the turn of my branch to fall so more could form in its place... So that the other branches could be nurtured to be made stronger to support the birds," a cherry blossom seems to appear at the node of the lone branch, right where it seemed like a branch started to grow and had fallen off leaving behind a scar.

"What...?" A single bird flies past them to take a seat on the lone branch.

"I know this has been tough on you... But you need to let go of that  fallen branch and move onto your own path," she points to the bird. "You need to make sure that branch is strong enough to support that bird... To support our daughter"

"You know I can't do this without you," his voice breaks and tears flow down from his eyes. He places his right hand on her left cheek, bringing her closer to him while placing a longing kiss on her head.

"I know you can," she moves his head so his eyes land onto that little bird that still stood it's ground on that branch. "She needs you more than anything right now."

"I can't!" He breaks down, tears streaming down his face faster now. Her hands cup his chin on them while her fingers wipe the stray tears on his face. He holds onto her wrist, as if trying to capture the last few lively moments of her face.

She smiles at him, a few tears escaping her eyes as well. She lets go of his face to hold onto his hands for the last few seconds. She gestures towards and mimics the little bird to bring a smile out of him. He gives out a sad chuckle while kissing her hands.

"I love you..."  Is all she is able to say before her form disappears into a pile of cherry blossoms that flow away with the guidance of a golden light.

"I love you so much more," he whispers out, breaking down on the ground right there.

---
He waked up in a huff with his eyes watery. There were clear signs of tears on his face that had dried up and a few cherry blossom petals clenched up in his fist. He looks around his room, looking for her and calls out her name a few times before realising the dreadful situation.

Quickly getting up from his bed, with his hair all messed up, he slides a few fingers through them to untangle them while he walks towards the door of his little princess. As he walks in through the door, he notices she was playing silently on the floor, with her little barbies.

"Good morning, princess... You're up early," he smiles at her as he sits down on the ground beside her.

"Yes daddy, I wanted to wake you up... But you seemed so tired," she smiles back at him and scoots closer to him. "I missed you daddy!"

A few tears escape his eyes and he wraps his arms around her small frame. She closes her eyes while in his embrace, feeling safe and content, just as he felt while he held her in his arms. "I missed you too princess and I promise I will never leave again... Your mummy wouldn't forgive me if I did," he chuckled softly.

"Mummy told me she's always there with us," the little girl whispers out as she cuddles up to her father, making sure she had him all trapped with whatever her little arms could do.

"She is, princess," he smiles at the little girl's antics and runs her arms to calm her down and reassure her. He could swear in that moment, he saw that golden light pass by them for a second in that moment.
