CHAPTER 62: When Darkness Strikes
The chaotic roar of battle echoed across Nabu Island, fire and lightning cracking the sky as villains swarmed the coast in search of destruction. In the eye of the storm, you stood with your fists clenched, heart pounding against your ribs. The harbor churned violently behind you, a mirror of the battle raging ahead.
Separated from the rest of Class 1-A, it was just you, Izuku, and Katsuki against Nine and his elite. But you had no time to think of reinforcements. Every second counted.
Izuku was already charging ahead, his body sparking with energy, the telltale green lightning of One For All dancing around him. His movements were sharp but heavy—he was tired, and it showed. But his eyes burned with unwavering determination.
Katsuki was at his side, every explosive blast from his gauntlets rocking the ground. He wasn’t holding back. His face was twisted into a furious scowl, sweat trickling down his temples, but his focus was razor sharp. “Deku, don’t screw this up!” he barked as he launched himself into the air with a powerful detonation, spiraling toward Nine with a roar.
You were close behind, your water-based quirk pulsing beneath your skin like a tidal drumbeat. The harbor was your ally, its waves swelling in response to your call. You could feel the heartbeat of the ocean matching your own. As Nine lifted his hand, preparing an attack, you didn’t hesitate.
“Watch out!” you shouted. You thrust both arms forward, your palms glowing with the shimmer of condensed energy. The water behind you rose with a thunderous roar, forming a towering wave that surged toward Nine like a living beast, jaws wide to devour him whole.
But Nine wasn’t easy prey. A shimmering dome of compressed air burst around him, deflecting the tidal assault. Water exploded in every direction, the force stinging your face as you skidded back on soaked ground.
“Nice try,” Nine sneered, eyes gleaming with dark amusement. “Is that the best you can do?”
You didn’t answer. Instead, you inhaled sharply, the moisture in the air prickling against your skin as you reached for a deeper reserve. The temperature around you dropped in a snap. You stomped your foot and swung your arms outward, freezing the air instantly. Jagged spears of ice formed in a blink, their razor edges catching the dim light. With a fierce cry, you launched them one after the other, each one sharper and faster than the last.
One spear tore through Nine’s barrier and grazed his shoulder, drawing blood and forcing him to stumble back.
“You’re starting to annoy me,” he growled, but you held your ground, raising your arms again.
Before he could retaliate, Katsuki shot in from the right, midair, a roar tearing from his throat. “DIE, BASTARD!” His gauntlets exploded with concentrated blasts aimed at Nine’s barrier. Each blast cracked through the air like thunder, relentless and savage.
Nine braced himself, blocking the onslaught with layered winds, but Katsuki wasn’t done. He twisted midair, blasting backward to gain momentum, then came crashing down in a spiraling descent—Howitzer Impact.
You raised your hands instantly, redirecting water from the crashing waves into the air to form a protective ring around Katsuki just as Nine tried to counter with a shockwave. The water buffered the impact, shielding him long enough to let him land and unleash a final explosion right in Nine’s face.
Smoke and wind collided as the villain staggered back, caught off guard.
“Damn, Katsuki!” you breathed, impressed by the raw force of it.
“Focus!” he barked, not even glancing at you. “We’re not done until he’s in the dirt!”
Izuku joined the fray, zigzagging between cover, his fists glowing. He exchanged a series of blows with Nine, each hit timed perfectly with Bakugo’s blasts and your water strikes. You were no longer just three students fighting alone—you were moving in sync like warriors, combining force, speed, and control.
