I was really looking forward to the concert with Poppy because it was our first true event together. It wasn't just us going to each other's houses, mostly me going to her apartment.
We got to get ready together, drive to the city, and enjoy some great music.
Poppy and I got ready at her apartment together. It made me chuckle how she changed her outfit about 10 times.
She finally settled on a black corset top with a pair of tight, light wash jean shorts.
"How is this?" she asked me, placing her hands on her hips.
I looked at Poppy, "Hot. I don't think I've ever seen you in that top before."
"Ah, you haven't seen most of my summer style yet. You're in for a treat," Poppy said with a wink.
I wore a short, form fitting black dress with short sleeves and a pair of black lace up boots. I pulled my hair back into a high ponytail, and of course did my usual heavy eyeliner and lashes.
"So, you told Emily that it wasn't just me that you were going with tonight?" Poppy asked.
I nodded, "She thinks Diego and Laura are joining us as well."
"That's probably smart that you told her that. You can still post on social media about the concert if you want."
"The only thing I'd ever want to post is a picture of you and I. But I know that can't happen yet."
"We can still take a picture of the two of us," Poppy said, "I can't believe we haven't even taken a selfie together!"
I stood next to Poppy, and she put her arm around me. We smiled for the photo, and then she took another with me kissing her cheek.
"I wish I could make this my phone background," Poppy said, looking at the photo of me kissing her cheek, "It's a good one."
"You look gorgeous," I said to her.
"Oh, you flatter me, pretty girl," Poppy said back to me.
Poppy put on some lip gloss and did some touch ups on her hair, and then we were ready to go.
As we were walking out to Poppy's car, we heard a voice say, "Hey, Poppy! And...Delilah? Is that you?"
Poppy and I stopped dead in our tracks and turned to see Laura.
Yes, Laura lived in the same apartment complex as Poppy, but on the whole other side, so I never worried about seeing her. Until now.
"Hey, Laura," Poppy said, "I don't think I've ever seen you in the complex before."
"Hi Laura," I said with a wave, even though my heart was pounding.
"A package of mine got delivered to the wrong apartment," Laura said, "I just grabbed it. But what are you two doing together, don't you not like each other?"
Poppy and I glanced at each other, not knowing what to say.
Finally, I said, "We're going to a concert together."
Not a lie.
That confused Laura even more, "So...why are you two going to a concert together if you don't like each other?"
Poppy looked at me, and we had an unspoken communication. I knew Poppy was silently asking me if she could tell Laura about us, and I gave her a subtle nod.
"We're dating," Poppy said to Laura, "Delilah is my girlfriend."
Laura looked absolutely dumbfounded, "You two are dating? Since when?"
