I wasn't really nervous as I drove to the date, considering it wasn't going to lead anywhere.
I was the last one to arrive. Emily looked really pretty in a pink sweater and a pair of dark wash jeans. Evan was exactly how she described him, with a similar style to mine.
Morgan was cute, there was no denying that.
"Hi Delilah," she greeted me with a sweet voice, "Nice to meet you."
"Nice to meet you as well," I smiled at her.
However, on the inside, I was a bit annoyed. Morgan seemed really nice, and Emily was setting me up to possibly hurt her if she wanted to keep seeing me.
Morgan was, in fact, extremely nice. Almost to the point where I wondered if It was all real.
I was happy for Emily. Evan seemed like a really good guy, and I could tell he liked her a lot by the way he gazed at her.
I tried my best to concentrate on the date, and interact in the conversations, but my mind kept going back to Poppy.
Get out of my head, Poppy.
"What do you do for work, Delilah?" Morgan asked me. I learned that she was a Pediatric Nurse.
"I'm a barista," I said, "Still trying to figure out exactly what I want to do with my life."
I swore I saw Morgan's smile falter a bit, but she said, "Nothing wrong with that!"
Why would there be something wrong with it?
"I was a barista the whole time I was in college," Evan said, "It's a really cool job. I'm still friends with people I worked with."
I nodded, "I'm friends with a lot of the people I work with. You definitely create a bond."
More than friends with one of them as well.
The four of us shared chips with pico de gallo and guacamole, as well as churros.
"Are you sure you don't want a drink?" Morgan asked me, "I feel bad, you're just drinking water."
Evan, Emily, and Morgan all had an alcoholic drink in front of them.
"I'm good," I said to Morgan, "I don't drink alcohol."
Her green eyes widened, "Really? Wow. I think I would be exiled from my friend group if I didn't drink."
Even though she wasn't outwardly judging me, I could tell that she was.
Meanwhile, Poppy asked me why I don't drink, and listened while I told her the reasons.
Emily looked between Morgan and I and said, "Hey, nothing wrong with not drinking. Your liver will thank you, Delilah."
I smiled at Emily, grateful for the save.
When the date ended, Morgan gave me a hug, and I hugged her back, but I didn't feel any chemistry there.
"I'll text you later," Emily said as we left. I knew she was going to ask me what I thought of Morgan.
When I got to my car, I saw I had a text from Poppy, and my heart skipped a beat.
It said: You should come over when your date is finished.
I texted her back: I'm on my way.
She texted me back simply saying, "Perfect".
When I got to Poppy's, she surprised me by greeting me at the door with a kiss. I savored the way her lips felt on mine.
When we pulled away, I asked, "What was that for?"
"To remind you what you were missing tonight," Poppy said, and I followed her into her apartment.
I stopped by the kitchen and said to Poppy, "Well...she wasn't hotter than you."
Poppy grinned and said, "Glad to hear it. But did you like her? Looks aren't everything, you know."
"She was nice enough...but I don't think I'd want to pursue anything. Relationship wise or sexual."
Poppy looked like she was trying not to smile, and I said to her, "If I didn't know better, I'd think you're jealous."
"I don't get jealous, Delilah. Especially if there's nothing to be jealous of."
I rolled my eyes, "Alright, Poptart. Whatever you say."
Poppy blinked, and then she started to laugh, "What the hell did you just call me?"
I laughed as well, "You heard me, Poptart."
"You are so not making that a thing."
"I think that's up for me to decide. I think it's pretty cute."
"I think you're pretty cute," Poppy said back to me, and I immediately felt myself blush.
Poppy looked almost embarrassed that she said that, but she then recovered quickly and crossed her arms, "So, Delilah...are you going to let me show you what you were missing out on tonight or what?"
Immediately, I followed Poppy to her bedroom.
I'll deal with my guilt tomorrow.
