And there's no way I would ever say a word about my...attraction to Poppy.
That's being buried forever.
And ever.
I was able to find plans for New Year's Eve. Laura was going to host a party at her apartment, and most people from work were going.
I couldn't help but wonder if Poppy was going to be there.
Laura said to bring anyone, and for a split second I thought about asking Corrine if she wanted to go with me, but at the same time, I didn't want her getting the wrong idea about things.
I worked New Year's Eve Day, with Diego and Sydney. It wasn't busy, thankfully.
"You're both going to Laura's tonight, right?" Diego asked the two of us.
Sydney nodded, "I am. Poppy and I are going together."
"So, are you and Poppy officially dating, or...?" Diego asked Sydney.
"No. We're keeping it pretty casual," Sydney replied.
"Is that your choice or Poppy's?" Diego questioned her.
"More so Poppy's," Sydney mumbled, "I like Poppy. I'm not going to rush her into a relationship."
"Yeah, but also don't let her string you along, Syd," Diego said back to her.
I think I've seen this before...
"I wouldn't," Sydney shook her head, "I respect myself more than that."
Diego smiled, "Good."
I nodded, "I think that's good as well."
When I got home, I started to get ready for New Year's Eve. As I was carefully doing my winged liner, I got a text from Corrine asking what I was doing. I texted her back that I was going to a party at my coworkers house.
She texted me back saying she was going to a party at her friends house, but if I wanted to come over after the party was over, I could.
I texted Corrine back that I would let her know as the night went on if I could come over.
I honestly wasn't sure if I wanted to, or if I should. I was concerned that Corrine was starting to get too attached, and I really didn't want her getting the wrong idea.
As I was finishing curling my hair, there was a knock on my door.
"Come in," I said.
The door opened, and it was my mom. She wore a very tight black dress, and her light blonde hair was down and straight. Even though my mom is 45 years old, she often dresses like she is my age when she goes out.
"You look nice!" she said to me, "Are you going out with Emily?"
"No, I'm going to a co-workers house for a party. Emily is spending new years with her boyfriend."
"Oh, I didn't know she had a boyfriend, good for her!"
"It's still pretty new, but I'm happy for her."
"So am I. Are you driving tonight, how far away does your co-worker live?"
I looked at my mom, "Only 5 minutes away. She lives in that apartment complex, Meadow Creek, and yes, I am driving myself."
"Good, I'm glad she lives close. Be careful tonight, there are a lot of drunk drivers on the road."
I stared at my mom, "I hope you're not one of them later."
