Time Skip: After they finish their studies
Beomgyu POV
I thought things would get better once high school was over. No more dealing with Yeonjun and his constant mind games. I'd moved in with my aunt and uncle after graduation, hoping for a fresh start. My parents passed away when I was younger, and they'd taken me in, always treating me well. They gave me space when I needed it, and honestly, I was grateful. It wasn't home, but it was better than being stuck in the past.
But today? Today was different. Everything felt... off.
I was in the kitchen, minding my own business, when my aunt casually dropped the bomb.
"So, we've been talking with Yeonjun's family..." she started, her tone way too calm for what she was about to say.
I froze, spoon halfway to my mouth. "Uh, why?" I wasn't expecting to hear his name ever again, let alone in my new life away from everything.
"Well," she said, giving me a smile that I knew meant trouble. "We've arranged a marriage for you. With Yeonjun."
The spoon clattered against the bowl, my heart stopping for a second. "What?!" I almost choked. "With Yeonjun? That Yeonjun? The one who made my life hell in high school?"
She looked at me like I was overreacting, waving a hand as if this was no big deal. "It's a family arrangement. It's been planned for years, Beomgyu. Both families agreed. You two are perfect for each other."
Perfect for each other? Was she serious? I was about to lose it. "You can't be serious." My voice cracked, and I wasn't sure if I was more angry or terrified. "Why didn't anyone tell me about this? I didn't sign up for this! I'm not marrying him!"
She sighed like I was being difficult. "It's tradition, Gyu. Your parents agreed to this before they passed. And Yeonjun's family has been waiting. It's time to honor those promises."
"Honor what?" I stood up from the table, my head spinning. "He's literally the last person on earth I'd ever want to marry! Do you even know how he treated me?"
"People change," my aunt said, brushing off my outburst like it was nothing. "You're both older now, more mature. You'll figure it out."
Figure it out? Was she hearing herself? This was Yeonjun we were talking about! The guy who couldn't go a day without finding some new way to make me feel small.
"I'm not doing it," I said firmly, trying to keep my voice steady. "I don't care about tradition or promises or any of that. I'm not marrying him."
Before she could respond, the front door creaked open, and my uncle walked in, clearly having overheard the conversation. "Beomgyu, I know this is sudden, but it's not something you can just walk away from."
I stared at them, feeling like the walls were closing in. "This is insane. I can't believe you're even asking me to do this."
"You don't have a choice," my uncle said gently, but there was a finality in his tone that made my stomach drop. "This was decided a long time ago. It's not up for debate."
My mind was racing. Yeonjun. Of all people. My aunt and uncle were acting like this was normal, like they were setting me up on a blind date or something. But this was marriage. With Yeonjun. The guy who spent years making me feel like garbage.
I needed to get out of here. Grabbing my phone and keys, I muttered something about needing air and practically ran out the door. My heart was pounding, my hands shaking as I stumbled down the steps, not sure where I was even going.
All I knew was that I needed to escape this nightmare.
