Logan groaned softly as he slowly regained consciousness. What... what happened?
Oh. Nothing. He just fell asleep on-
On Wade. Damn it! This did not help his case whatsoever!
Wade was still asleep, mumbling something as he usually did when he was off in literal la-la-land. Something about Logan, something about Thor, something that was not going to be repeated in this book... Yes. Even the author has limits to an R rated fic.
Logan wanted to scowl and be upset about the sleeping arrangements, but in truth the nap was probably needed. Wade had a very special comfort about himself- not that he'd ever admit that to him. Perhaps it was because his body ran cold due to the cancer and Logan ran hot. Like sleeping on a cold water bottle.
He debated on going back to sleep but his ears picked up on a noise. It was utterly silent in the room, so his ears were more sensitive than normal. He tilted his head to focus on the odd creaking noise, and it could only translate in his head to...
A window opening.
"Shit!" He shouldn't have left Estelle alone this long. Or at all. That was on him. "Wade, get up! Be ready!" That's the only warning he could give Deadpool. If they suddenly had to chase her down, sprint after her, so be it. It seems she's worn out their hospitality this time around. He saved her life, and this was her thanks? Perhaps they were truly being too generous of hosts. And perhaps it was true that his feelings for her had forced him to let his guard down...
He didn't want to be in this position anymore, even be involved in this mess, yet here he was, still playing the role of warden to a prisoner he wish he could just free.
Wade yelped at being woken up in such a rude way, and felt Logan jump off him faster than he anticipated. He couldn't move yet, still a squished Deadpool from having Logan lie on him for so long. The man was heavy! Not good for the back, that was for sure...
He blinked, craning his head back to see what all the commotion was. "Okay... be ready for what?" His friend already disappeared into the bedroom so he was left stuck to the couch cushions, half awake and heart racing in his chest from the jolt. He could tell today was going to just get worse from here.
Logan entered the bedroom, hoping it would be another false alarm like it was yesterday. Instead, his worries had proven to be true. Estelle was trying to jiggle the rusty window open, which clearly meant he shouldn't have left her alone again after last time.
"Estelle!" She jumped at hearing her name be called out and saw the look on Logan's face. This was bad. Damn it! She knew she wasn't fast enough! She didn't slow down but actually doubled her efforts, finally raising the window high enough that she could climb out of it. Knowing she was going to get caught and be in some serious trouble anyway, she would push her luck until it ran out.
"Don't do it..." Logan warned her, seeing she had a moment's hesitation with the window open. The cold blast of wind did nothing to dampen their objectives. Neither even reacted. "Step away. Slowly. All will be forgiven."
Estelle narrowed her eyes, having the fierce determination that made her the very woman that's eluded the TVA for years. "Forgiven? For trying to escape forced custody?" She was done playing the good girl here. She already made her mind up to leave and that wasn't going to change again.
"No." She went to lunge out the window, using this as the last chance she had to ever see freedom again. Except she barely got halfway out before being dragged right back inside by his strong arms. Fuck, he was fast.
Logan knew that she would be making that move and had rushed upon her right in the same moment. He grabbed hold of her waist and yanked her back inside, before trapping her in his arms. "Stop fighting!"
