7 - Run Rabbit Run

Start from the beginning

She laughs, patting your shoulder strongly (you almost fell, just how strong is her rabbit quirk?) as she smirks cockly.

"What are you thanking me for? You saved your own butt, red-face." She says smugly, giving you a nickname based on the current state of your face. You already knew you needed to work on how to receive compliments without getting embarrassed, but this is a whole new level.

She's sounding a whole lot like Bakugo.

"Yes... Of course. I just wanted to say that, uhm..." You mutter quietly, finally gaining some composure after the shock of talking to Mirko. You still don't believe you met her like this.

"That those words mean a lot to me, especially because you're one of my favorite heroes and I'm training to be one in the future. That's why I was able to defend myself." You admit, looking her in the eyes with an insecure, shy look. It's true, she is on your favorite lists. You even watched some interviews reporters did on her about her workout routine, and trust me, you don't want to train like she does.

Your words seem to boost her ego, as her grin widens even more.

"Eh, knew it." She says cockly. She scans you for a second, deep in thought, dropping her smile. Without a warning, she takes off the white, fluffy neck warmer resting on her neck. You always thought it was attached to her costume, but apparently you were wrong.

Next thing you know, she puts it around your neck. It's very fluffy and surprisingly clean (you would think it would be sweaty since she moves so much and it's the middle of summer).

You're left very confused.

"Here. You're a good fan, you deserve this. Now promise me you'll keep training hard to beat up even more villains, and go get that spot in a hero school!" She ruffles your blonde hair, letting out an amused laugh as she keeps her cocky smirk.

You've been blessed by the heavens, clearly.

You bow repeatedly, it's the only way you can express the infinite gratitude you feel now, that you will probably feel for the rest of your life.

She gives you another pat on the shoulder, laughing.

Unfortunately, Mirko had to go very soon: She has hero duties to do (and, in her words, "Gotta keep kicking asses over there!") so she's really busy and can't stay to talk to you.

You noticed way too late the amount of envious people who stared at your new neck warmer like it was made of gold. Considering it belongs to a very famous hero, it's definitely worth a ton of money. But you'll never sell this, you would rather die.

After having simped for Mirko as much as you could, the police officers ask you to go to the police station for a quick medical check-up and in general to be the main witness of the crime scene.

The medic said that everything was ok, there was barely a bruise in your body. She also complimented you, along with the police officers, for your quick-thinking and strength. To put it simply, the medical check-up was more of a blushing session for you.

The interrogation, as one might call it, was quick: You didn't see much anyway. You described what you saw, nothing more or less. When it was over, your parents had already arrived at the police station.

"My baby!" Your mum calls out crying, both her and her husband looking sick from worry.

Never have they hugged you so hard. Your mum was crying tears, both from the joy and worry she felt for you. Your dad also joined the hug, asking repeatedly if everything was ok. You reassured them that there was nothing to worry about, because it's true: Nothing really happened there. You proudly showed them the white soft neck warmer that Mirko gifted you, and they smiled knowing you were fine.

After those long police procedures were over, they let you go home with your parents.

The car trip was just a 20 minute drive in which your mum cursed the villain in every way she knew of, making sure even his deceased grand-grandparents knew of what he had done. Dad just nodded, quietly agreeing with her rant. You facepalm.

Yuga's hands trembled, the pen in his hands risked falling on the ground. Scratch that, Yuga himself risked falling on the ground: he was as pale as a ghost, everyone would think he was fainting.

He felt like throwing up.

He promised to himself that he'd keep you safe, away from all those dangers of this world, and then he finds out you were involved in a villain attack?

He doesn't think he could fail more than this.

He was just doing his homework when his mum received a phone call, the phone on the kitchen counter buzzing as she went downstairs to pick it up. Yuga didn't pay much attention to her, only giving a few glances. He raised his eyes from his homework only when he saw his mum's face.

She was covering her mouth, sick with worry. Yuga tensed up: He knew what that expression usually meant, and he didn't like it. That man was doing something, his mum had just been warned or informed about it.

His assumption turned out to be wrong.

When his mum finally told him what the problem was, he wished he wasn't wrong.

His mum is calling your mum, very worried for your health. Yuga can't help but wait impatiently next to her, catching a few bits of the conversation here and there.

From what it sounds, you're completely fine. But that doesn't change much Yuga's feelings: He still feels like an absolute failure who should have been there with you, took your place even. He just doesn't want you to know how that fear feels like for him, he doesn't wish for anyone to go through that.

Adding salt to the injury, your mum said that you left the house to buy a gift for him.

It's basically his fault at this point, he's just that much of a failure to be the cause of your problems when he sweared over his life he would leave you out of his family's shady affairs with villains.

He's now walking in circles in his house, waiting for you to be back home so he can hug you as hard as he can. That's all he wishes and wants right now, for you to be safe and with him.

Mirko the second the sport festival begins: "You see that girl? The one kicking everyone's butts on the TV? It's my illegally adopted child."

.

So... Remember when I said "the next chapter will be way more fluffy"? Well, I lied.

Obviously it's not as angsty as the other one, but it still has some of that element. I felt like the previous chapter wasn't complete, in a sense. The idea of meeting Mirko like this was one of the first ideas I had for Toga. However, after I wrote the last chapter, I realized the potential that this scene held for even more angst with Yuga.

I mean, What's better than to hit a character exactly where it hurts, just after they thought they had gotten over it?

Yeah, i'm cruel.

Also, Mirko is a woman who likes hardworking, determined, brutally honest and confident people with drive like her. While you're definitely not confident, she knows just by looking at your movements how hard you trained, and that's something she likes.

So, while she would never give a piece of her uniform to normal fans, she does that for you because she believes you have potential and the drive, you just need more confidence. It's her way of telling you that you should believe in yourself because you're worthy of her respect.

This is my take on Mirko's character, at least.

Like always, Bye yall! Have a nice day!
