Yuga is staring at the ceiling of his bedroom. It's past midnight, but he can't fall asleep even if he wants to. He's laying there, motionless and without any will to stand up. Not that he's supposed to be active at this time of the night anyway.

The words you said to him about a month ago are still stuck in his head.

.

"Exactly. I still believe in the Yuga that told me that."

.

What does that mean for him?

The things he said were mean and downright uncaring. Your response to them was basically your own polite version of "I liked you better before this". Not that anything changed much between you two: You're still the same as ever, and he's slowly getting his stuff together too.

Still, those words have a deeper meaning that keeps him up at night.

He doesn't understand.

Actually, screw that. A lot changed between you two. It's an invisible change, but it's there. He's not dumb, he knows those words impacted you greatly. You're just way better than him at lying and keeping a straight face, not letting your inner struggles show.

What if he made you even more insecure? He needs to make up, somehow, for the damage done.

Although, Now that he thinks about it, it won't matter much in the long run. When you'll find out about the dark truth, he won't stand a chance at convincing you to stay with him. Speaking from that man's point of view... If he's not capable of lying to you, then Yuga should just abandon you.

It would be the safest option for both: Yuga wouldn't risk getting caught, and for you it would hurt less to find out the truth because he's already detached from you.

But he would never, ever do that.

He just hopes you'll forgive him and stay safe.

Yuga has gone back to his old self, slowly.

Painfully slowly, you'd like to add.

You made sure to hang out with him more frequently, to make sure everything was fine between the two after that disastrous tutor session. Seeing him so worried and nervous for something that isn't his fault made you feel really bad. You want to make up for that.

Of course, that doesn't mean you just abandoned Nejire. You still kept in touch with her a lot. You two have set up a day on which, for the first time, you'll train against an actual hero. You're sure she will go easy on you, but even then, you won't stand a chance. What will you do, throw a knife at her? Definitely not.

You stare at your homeworks for a while. It's boring, but it's basically a joke for you.

As you get lost in your own thoughts, a random idea pops up in your mind. You should give Yuga a gift. His birthday was in May, so it's not related to that at all.

It's your way of lessening the pity and worry you feel for him: If you see him smile smugly and flaunt his hair like he always does, you'll feel a whole lot better. Boosting his ego always works afterall, surely he'll feel better.

Should you buy him cheese?

Probably. He has tons of it at home, but as he always says, "there's never enough cheese, Mademoiselle!". You sweatdrop as you remember the unholy amount of french cheese you found in his fridge last time you went to his house. Yeah, he loves cheese a little too much.
