As you stand in front of the school's gate, you frown slightly. You don't particularly want to socialize, but you'll likely have to. Besides, it will be hard to find someone open minded enough to not screech with disgust at the mention of drinking blood.
You would know, it's not the first time you had kids picking on you because of that.
Aoyama promptly told the teacher about it every time because you simply didn't care enough to report that behavior. He ended up a little isolated too because he acted like a snitch, yet when you asked him about how he felt about this, he said it was fine.
You take a deep breath.
The bell rings, and you enter your new school, doing slaloms between the crowd of students all grouped in front of the entrance. Apparently, people like standing in the way of others.
The first day goes... decently.
By decently, you mean it was awfully boring.
Of course, the teacher just had to ask everyone's name and quirk.
When it was your turn and you spoke, the classroom fell into a very awkward silence. You had everyone's eyes on you, it was really embarrassing. The lessons were really boring on their own, the fact that you already knew everything they teached didn't help either.
People avoided you during the break, but you didn't suffer from any particular bully act. If they'll ever try something, you'll pin them down on the ground without a thought.
The bell rang as it was break time. You explored your new school for a little, ate a granola bar as you looked around, trying to familiarize with the place.
You quickly noticed a quiet spot in which the "outcasts" of the school were sitting in peace, minding their own business. Maybe you should join them. You scan one by one the people eating alone, trying to find someone approachable or even just a quiet spot free for you to take during the break.
You almost drop your granola bar as you stop chewing, mouth half open.
There's just no way.
A girl with long periwinkle hair is sitting in one of the benches, drinking a juice box with a cold expression on her face. That expression is nothing like the cheerful, bluntly curious one she had in the anime.
Nejire Hado.
You have a flashback of the last war arc, where she was fighting Shigaraki and her backstory was shown.
She's bullied, isn't she? Isolated because of a simple quirk. It resembles your situation in a way, and that hits much closer to home than you thought it would. You can't help but feel a surge of pity and understanding for her situation.
You remember her backstory pretty well: Nejire was simply curious about her classmates' quirks, asking questions. The other kids thought she was mocking them, viewed her as a bully and isolated her. She lost that sparkle in her eyes, and she would only gain it back when she met Tamaki in her first year of UA.
Why is society so cruel?
You don't really understand. This society is all too focused on quirks. When you enroll in the UA's hero course, you'll make sure to become a hero that changes people's views on quirks. It would be quite fitting for Toga's original plot, wouldn't it?
As much as you liked the scene where Tamaki talks to Nejire and she gains that cheerful curiosity back, you can't just stand there and let her suffer in that corner. You're a hero, and a hero's job is to help people. You'll steal Tamaki's spotlight this time. Sorry Tamaki.
