Monologue

Water.

Earth.

Fire.

Air.

Long ago, there were times of peace when the four nations lived in balance, maintained by a single person.

The Avatar.

The only being capable of mastering all four elements and who, generation after generation, was charged with maintaining the balance between the human and spirit worlds.

However, when the world needed him most...

The Avatar vanished.

The Fire Nation seized that moment to begin its expansion. Fear and slaughter became their primary tools, and those who might pose a threat were eliminated.

The Air Nomads were the first to fall.

The Fire Nation completely wiped them out, fearing that the Avatar might be among them.

But the Avatar never appeared.

Even when the other nations united to try to halt the enemy's advance, the Fire Nation's military might and technological advancements remained superior.

And without the Avatar to stop them... the world was left defenseless.

The Air Nomads were gone.

The Avatar cycle had been broken.

Or... at least, that's what everyone thought.

My name is Ayanokōji Atsuomi.

I wasn't born into a prestigious family, nor did I come from a notable bloodline. I am the son of a Fire Nation general and a warrior from Kyoshi Island-an island founded by the very Avatar who bore that name.

I lived a relatively normal life until I turned sixteen. I lived with my parents in a small rural area, far removed from the Fire Nation's major cities.

Until one day...

The Fire Nation attacked.

They killed everyone living there. My father, for being considered a deserter. And my mother... for trying to protect me.

Would it be cruel to say I felt no sadness at that moment?

Probably.

After all, I expected them to finish me off, too; I was their son.

But it seemed life had other plans for me.

Instead of dying, I was given the chance to serve the Fire Nation, thanks to my father's past contributions.

And, of course... I didn't refuse.

I still had much to offer in this life.

In the years that followed, I grew up under the care of General Iroh. He felt responsible for what had happened and claimed to have known my father. For a time, I stayed by his side and that of his son, Lu Ten.

To me... he became something like a brother. But a few years later, Lu Ten died, and that changed Iroh. He completely abandoned his role as a Fire Nation conqueror and left behind the war he had pursued for so long.

I, on the other hand, kept moving forward.

Being adopted by a member of the royal family granted me certain benefits and opportunities. And as I rose, I proved something many considered impossible:
