"What about you?" Mia did as she was told, raising her hands and getting ready to fall forward, but not without asking that heartfelt question which almost singlehandedly managed to have Connor grow immune to the cold temperatures his systems kept alerting him of. Another system report got dismissed by him in the meantime.
"I'll be right behind you," he nodded along his promise. He sought to look her in her eyes while his hand wrapped around the seatbelt's lock, "Once you are out, stay low, alright?"
Connor would have gotten out of the car first had it not been of more importance to him to ensure Mia would be out of the wrecked vehicle before its deteriorated state could get them both stuck in there. He waited for her nod of understanding and went through with the ministrations of getting her seatbelt off.
As soon as the lock popped, Mia dropped to her knees, her forearms bracing her against the impact, though her palms were met with the harshness of shattered glass from the windshield. She cursed under her breath, as not to alert Connor of the cuts she had earned, then raised her head only to realize how little space there was left now that the car had been crushed against the snow. Just to be sure she won't injure herself, Connor lifted his own hand to shield her head from raising too high and hitting the gears now above them.
He directed her attention away from him and to the back of the car with his hand alone before reminding her out loud as well, "The door behind me. Stay low to the ground."
Mia seemed far too shaken up from the whole ordeal of the crash to question his directions too much right off the bat.
She had her own natural urgency to getting out of there as fast as possible, but once she kicked that back door open and the cold air nipped at her cheeks, Mia almost regretted escaping the wreck. The blizzard had grown in strength more than she could have seen from a moving vehicle, and it showed no signs of dialing down the rate at which snowflakes fell from the greyed sky any time soon. She hadn't a clue what Connor meant by having her remain as low to the ground as possible, but with her strengths trembling before the coldness of the weather, there wasn't much she could have done against her limbs dictating she stayed knelt in the snow anyway.
The most she could do was will her arms to wrap around herself and conserve some of her warmth, all the while squinting at their blurred out surroundings and trying to make out something other than the land equivalent of the sensation she had at sea, when they discovered the freighter had just become unsafe.
How are we getting to that darn aerodrome now? She asked herself, mindlessly chewing a superficial layer of skin off her bottom lip. The howling of the winds was an even more annoying silence than the ringing in her ears, so Mia looked back towards the wreck, "Are you alright in there?"
"Yes," Connor answered in the same breath he ripped his seatbelt out of its lock system and dropped to the shattered windshield turned as well. Dismissing every single prompt that tried to crowd his field of vision became a second nature to him, especially while his focus laid on prioritizing crawling the same way Mia went and getting out of the car.
Safe to say, he was violently reminded of how little resistence his biocomponents had to extreme weather conditions.
Subduing his shivers the best he could, he made his way to Mia and, taking hold of her shoulders for balance, looked around as well, scanning their surroundings. Much as he hated to admit it, they looked familiar, an image ripped from his cloud dreams.
"What did we hit?" Mia made no attempt to follow his line of sight, finding it perfectly fine to stick with watching him instead. She's had her fill of watching this nothingness they found themselves stranded into. Some part of her found it hard to ignore a pattern forming: the two of them were drawn to places without escape.
