She was drunk.
A young woman who looked like she was in her mid-twenties. She looked miserable. Someone as beautiful as her should not look this miserable, I thought to myself from across the sidewalk.
The pub seemed full from this area. The dark orange lights painted the floors of the Dublin pavement. Why does one drink so much? I thought to myself. The world is cruel, but one should learn from their mistakes and keep improving their circumstances. She looked really cute...... angelic even....as she stumbled across the pavement on the way to the parking lot.
As the sky began to embrace its now newly blackened canvas, my mind began to unravel bits and pieces from my emotionally abundant thoughts. I had kept the lid closed whilst working, and so it just so happened naturally that my brain felt it necessary to untangle some of my thoughts. It was peaceful after all. Not quite quiet but ....peaceful nonetheless.
In between my thoughts, I saw a man who looked twice the woman's age follow her from behind the pub's glass doors. As if on cue, she sped her pace to her car. As I watched in curiosity, I could see the man coming closer and closer to her. I watched as her small body kept up with the pace of her legs as she stumbled to a white mini Nissan, which was parked underneath a huge street lamp in the middle of the parking lot. As she threw herself in the car, I could feel my legs running towards the man, who, from my angle, seemed much closer to the woman than she was to the steering wheel.
" F*** *** man", cried the man who was trying to harass her as I jumped on his back and slammed him to the floor. "Sorry mate....I thought you were my friend", I replied to him.
"It's alright lad...Just don't do it again", mumbled the man, drunk as he staggered back towards the pub doors. I found it amusing how simple a drunk man could be when it came to thoughts, but similarly, how awful his actions could turn out to be without him being aware due to his unconsciousness from the alcohol. Before I could even turn around to look and check on the young woman, her car had disappeared into the night.
