Onika Maraj POV

My manager Kasey and I were in my home in long and drawn out interviews all day looking for a new bodyguard. My stardom and fanbase had grown to an insane point and it was time to stop simply relying on police or mall security to keep myself and my entourage safe. I love the Barbz with everything in me but they were as crazy as me and it was just good to always have someone to have their head on a swivel for me so I didn't have to.

I started to get bored after the third interview and trusted Kasey to do pretty much all the vetting and talking.

"Oni? Are you paying attention?" She snapped at me. I despised when she did that.

"Obviously i'm paying attention Kay. Now which one did you say was next?" I asked her in confusion as I ruffled through my copy of the many portfolios.

"This one. Beyoncé..? Knowles." She pronounced the name carefully, sparking my interest and attention. It was very unique and different and when she walked into the room she completely made me sit up and act like I had sense.

"Ms. Maraj and Ms. Taylor." She nodded her head as she took a seat in front of us. She moved calmly but with urgency as if she had other things to do. As if we needed her and she didn't need us.
She was right. I needed her, desperately.

Kasey began talking gibberish as I tilted over the glass table to look at her figure again. She had to have stood at exactly 6 ft from what I could tell when she walked in. She also had on a standard black suit and shiny dress shoes to match. My head tilted to the side as I took in how the fitted suit hugged her lean and muscular frame.

"Ms. Maraj?" She spoke directly to me. Damn was Kasey done already?

"Yes?" I asked as I looked at her face instead of her body. Both were just as alluring.

"I want to make sure you understand my skills and experience. I know your safety is the highest priority for yourself and your team. May I continue?" She asked, her well spoken but deep southern vernacular shocking me.

"I'm so sorry, it's been a day. Go ahead." I nodded and waved for her to continue.

"I served in the United States Navy Special Operations Force—"

"Navy Seal?... wow...i'm sorry it's just.. thank you for your service." Kasey stumbled in awe before quickly allowing her to continue.

"Thank you ma'am. Yes, I was a Navy Seal sniper to be exact. I was apart of a special warfare team that specialized in extracting US citizens from high value enemy personnel and terrorist overseas. I served 3 tours. 2 in Afghanistan and 1 in Korea."

"Mm. Impressive." I cleared my throat and pretended to look through her file while discreetly clenching my legs. Both Kasey and I were in awe, but she didn't seem like it was something to brag about. She actually seemed rather uncomfortable talking about it.

"What makes you want to go from serving your country to serving a bratty celebrity like they call me?" I asked her while laughing.

"Bratty celebrities are citizens too." She responded with a shy smile. I smiled back at her, my deep dimples on full display.

I could feel Kasey's eyes glancing back and forth from the both of us before she sighed and began talking again.

"The crowds on the streets and at the stadiums.. well pretty much anywhere she goes can get pretty crowded, chaotic, and loud. Is that something you can handle?" She asked as if we weren't looking at a damn Navy Seal right now. I rolled my eyes as I waited on her response.

"When I was on the tours in Afghanistan, some of my navy brothers and sisters and I use to canvas the perimeter of our base while bullets flew past our heads. I work very well in chaos." She explained as if what she said was normal. It was a little morbid I had to admit. I felt bad for her. It made me feel ungrateful for all the things I took for granted, not realizing some were fighting for me to have those very freedoms.

"Thank you. I think i've heard enough. Can you start tomorrow? I'm sure you know i'm performing at the Bet Awards." I leaned on my palm and smiled at her, ignoring all the effort and commitment Kasey had put into this search the entire month. I didn't care if she wanted to choose her or not. It was my bodyguard ultimately, and I wanted Her.

"Yes ma'am. I look forward to working with you and your team. There is a couple of things i've noticed about your transportation system that causes me concern. I also want to talk about the amount of unnecessary personnel in your entourage—"

"Okay guys It seems that you're both eager to get started." Kasey laughed as she continued to peep the intensity. I just smiled at Ms. Knowles. I loved how serious she was about my safety.
"But Onika, you and I still have more interviews. Some of them have come a long way." Kasey finished respectfully as she leaned over to me.

Both Ms. Knowles and I nodded in understanding as I took my pen off the table and began writing.

"This is my personal number. I would like yours as well. We're going to get real close and I don't want us talking through Kasey or anyone else. As far what you were saying.. Meet me here early tomorrow morning and we can get started on all the changes you want to implement."

"You're performing tomorrow Ms. Maraj. Respectfully, we should get started before tomorrow arrives." She furrowed her eyebrows in concern.

"Then meet me here tonight."

Author's Notes:
As I wrap up my last two books Flatline and Escorté, I have a new book that i'm excited to start.

This book is fiction and will be based on my ideas to make the most entertaining plot. Sooo things WILL be out of order and some songs or events from Nicki's life will be out of order for the plot of the story. Also, I want to merge some old characters with this book so it will be kind of sort of an alternate universe 👀.

With that being said, let's go another long toxic journey together ♥️💋😭
