I placed my hand to block the vision of the kid, letting out a sigh. Lee Gilyoung didn't resist, and instead turned to look up at me, his expression that of of fright and uncertainty.
"Kim Dokja will be fine." I said, in attempt to cheer the child up.
Though I was glad that I got to see the sight of Dokja in action, acting exactly according to the book- Lee Gilyoung was simply a child who leaned to Dokja as his only pillar and support, and the future events won't necessarily change just because I stopped a kid from witnessing terrible things.
".. Ahjussi." Lee Gilyoung looked at me, a puzzled look on his face.
"Why are you covering my eye?"
"It's brutal out there."
As I said that, Lee Gilyoung only seemed to looked more confused, as if I was weird. I didn't pay it any mind, since I would find it weird too if I was in his situation.
Several demonic people lost their balance and fell down the bridge.
Kwajijijik!
The fallen people bacame snacks for the ichthyosaurs. Like Piranhas, the ichthyosaurs broke the demonic people into dozens of pieces in an instant.
I looked at the scene ahead of me with interest, before I felt someone tugging my shirt.
"Do you find this fun?"
Lee Gilyoung asked, his question catching me off guard.
"Why do you say that?"
"It's written all over your face ahjussi."
He replied, watching me still, with a confused look on his face. He lifted his hand, tracing the shape of my mouth with his index finger from a distance. It was a curved line.
"You're smiling from ear to ear." Lee Gilyoung replied, causing my eyes to widen slightly before I reflexively covered my mouth.
That was dangerous.
I knew Lee Gilyoung was an observant kid, but I didn't expect him to notice my grin.
How embarrassing.
I should really learn how to control my facial expressions, so as to not look like a sadistic weirdo who enjoys seeing Kim Dokja fighting and bleeding, though I wouldn't say that the accusation is entirely wrong.
It will be especially bad for my image if Lee Gilyoung told him about a strange man who grinned as Kim Dokja was struggling. Surely, I don't want to make a bad impression.
"Put out your hand."
I said, as Gilyoung looked at me questioningly, before offering his hand as instructed; I was a bit surprised. The sheer naivety of this kid even after going through a traumatic event baffled me.
He saw people attempt to kill each other, but he seemed to trust me, in spite of his current vulnerability attributing to his worry for Kim Dokja. But then again, he must've known there was no reason for me to kill him.
"Wait a minute.." I quickly fumbled through the pockets of the pants I was currently wearing, before taking a few candy out and putting it in the kid's open hand.
I was now thankful to have a habit of collecting candy for a friend of mine, since It came quite handy for me.
Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would ever be able to give candy to one of the characters from my favorite novel.
"What's your name?"
"Lee Gilyoung." He replied.
I asked for his name again, despite already knowing him from the novel so as to not seem like a suspicious stalker.
