Chapter Twenty-Three (part one)

The song ended and a slow song started. A couple people left the dance floor, so that the only people left were couples. Mason took my hand and led me off the dance floor.

I frowned. Isn't he supposed to offer to dance with me? I read enough romance books to know the guy is supposed to dance with the girl to a slow romantic song, not lead her off the dance floor!

Mason stopped and then faced me.

"I was thirsty." Mason explained. "I'm going to get a drink from the kitchen, want one?" Mason offered.

"Uh, sure. How about some Orange Crush?" Mason nodded his head and then disappeared towards the kitchen.

I watched as the couples danced to the sweet, slow song. Grrr... It's no fair that Mason didn't ask me to dance with him! Why didn't he? Is there something wrong with me?

I was getting tired of standing, so I went to go find a seat. I spotted a black faux leather couch with one spot open. I decided to sit there.

When I sat down, the guy that was sitting next to me looked up. He had chocolate brown eyes, and sandy hair. He was pretty cute. He looked a little muscle-y, but just the right amount. Some people have so much muscle it just looks fake. That was not the case with this guy.

"Hi." He smiled at me.

"Hey." I said nervously.

"I'm Matt. What's your name?"

"Stacy." I replied. He nodded his head.

"That's a pretty name." I smiled at him.

"Really?" I asked. "You don't think it seems a bit grandma-ish?" He chuckled.

"No, I don't." He said, shaking his head with a grin. I smiled at him.

"Good." There was a moment of silence before Matt spoke up again.

"So, uh, are you from around here? I've never seen you at school."

"Yeah, I just moved here." Technically that wasn't really a lie.

"Ok, cool." Just then Mason came back with two pops in his hand. One Orange Crush, and one Coke.

"Here." He said handing me a pop. "I brought you your pop." I gave him a 'thanks.' Mason noticed Matt sitting beside me. Matt and Mason glared at each other for a second before Matt turned to talk to me.

"You know this jerk?" Matt asked me. I was shocked. Clearly they have some rivalry going on.

"Um, uh, yeah." I stumbled. Stupid brain.

"Yeah. She came here with me, Jackson." Mason said glaring at Matt.

"You guys know each other?" I asked stupidly. Stupid, stupid brain. Matt rolled his eyes.

"Unfortunately." He said sarcastically.

"Well, we were just leaving." Mason grabbed my wrist. "Come on Stacy." He yanked me off the couch (a bit harshly if you ask me) and led me out of the living room. We walked through the house and ended up in the game room. The was a green pool table, a beat-up air hockey table, a pin-ball machine, and carpet ball. There was a game of intense pool going on, and everyone looked serious. I wanted to laugh. How do you get that serious over a game of pool?

Mason stopped in front of the air hockey table and turned to face me.

"Air hockey?" He asked.

"Um, sure. I'm not very good though..." He chuckled.

"It's ok. I'll go easy on ya." I laughed at that.

"Nah, you don't need to. I'm sure I'll whip your butt anyways." We laughed and then Mason set it up so that we could play. It turns out, air hockey is a relatively simple game, that I happen to be pretty good at!

Unfortunately, Mason was better.

When the score was finally 7-2 (not in my favor) I threw my arms up in the air and forfeited the game.

"I give up!" I yelled exasperatedly. "You're just too good!" He gave me a cocky smirk, and I glared at him. He just gave me an 'I know' and I couldn't help but roll my eyes. That boy sometimes! He chuckled and then asked if I was hungry. I wasn't really hungry so I shook my head.

"Ok, I'll just run up and get something. Ok? Will you be ok?" He asked me. I looked around at the people in the game-room. There was a couple making out in the corner (gross), four tall teens playing an intense round of pool, two guys hogging the pin-ball machine, and a few people just milling around. I nodded my head.

"I'm sure I'll be fine." I said with a small smile. He nodded his head, and with that he went upstairs to get some food.

hey guys! Don't kill me! *hides behind a bush* I'm so sorry that I haven't written in a week! School resumed after spring break and now I'm so busy! I have swimming after school, sometimes swim meets, and then a ton of homework. I just haven't had the time to write!

While your trying to restrain yourself from killing me, just remember: you won't be able to read the rest of the story if I'm dead!
