1st POV (Y/N)

When I arrive at my destination, the penthouse was a marvel of modern luxury. Zuri, my best friend, lives in one of these lavish apartments that could easily drain someone's bank account. The view of the city at dusk, with it's twinkling lights and sprawling horizon, never fails to leave me in awe.

Loud music fills the apartment as we're both unpacking the big shopping spree we just went on to distract ourselves from the harsh and deathly reality.

"Girl I'm absolutely OBSESSED with this shirt, look how well it hugs my waist~", she shows off her new shirt which hugs her curves perfectly and I look up at her with a smile.

"You're killing it!" I tell her, in awe of how truly good she looks.

The pink color looks absolutely stunning on her rich, chocolate skin, and her hair bouncing with those thick curls just above her shoulders.

"I know right~", she strikes another pose, making us both giggle in response.

"You should also try these kinds of outfits, maybe you'll score more dates." She picks up another piece of clothing, a bright baby blue, which too, makes her shine.

"If I had a body like yours, sure", I smile while taking out my own hoodie and holding it up.

She rolls her eyes dramatically. "You're kidding right? You're hot, and don't let anyone tell you that bullshit of being afraid to be judged. Someone is annoying you? Fucking tase them." She takes out her own taser that's hanging from her phone chain and it makes a loud 'zap' sound. Making me flinch in my seat.

She tosses the phone with the taser away and continues unpacking the bags. "Just think about it, you're beautiful babes. Oversized is always comfy, but in order to feel confident? You have to feel yourself. You should be looking in the mirror and think, 'Oh hi gorgeous~'. It's not lying when you end up believing in it~"

It made me think. I do wear more hoodies and oversized clothing just because you can never really go wrong with that. But maybe she's right.

"You know Zuzu, maybe you're right." I fold the hoodie and put it to the side. "And with that fucked up game going on too, I heard some people started to become fitter because of the stats boosts."

"You're kidding-" she looks at me with shock. "You mean we can eat what we want AND look hot?"

"And maybe die- don't forget that." I add.

"Well... yeah. But hey, if we're fated to die, might as well have benefits to it."

"I see you're taking it well? The whole death game thing."

She stops taking out more clothes, and sits across me. "Ofcourse not."

My heart hurts for her, nobody was prepared to be thrown into what seems like a death sentence.

"But, I've worked my ass off my entire life. I know hard work is rewarded. And I think it's also in this situation. You would know... hanging around, scared to death, for the next round is just waiting to die. So I will work hard. And I'll prove those bastards they can't just do whatever they want."

"You're amazing for that level of bravery." It truly is admirable.

"I'm still scared." She looks at her hands.

"But bravery doesn't mean you're not scared. Bravery means you will still move on, even if fear is consuming you." I smile and take her hands in mine.

I know she can do it. She has before. And she got damn far too.
