My eyes stayed frozen on Whitney for a brief moment before I forced myself to look away. I knew that I was doing all of this to myself, but it still didn't make it any less awkward.
Lexie grabbed on to my hand and pulled me back out to the center of the dance floor. I tried to keep my mind off of the look that I'd just seen Whitney give me, but I couldn't stop thinking about it.
Come on, I thought to myself, focus on Lexie, Whitney has moved on and you need to do the same.
"Are you still doing okay?" Lexie asked as she put her hand under my chin and brought my gaze back to her.
"Yeah I - I'm fine I think," I responded.
"Would you tell me if you weren't?" She grinned.
"Maybe," I mumbled.
She shook her head at me before she abruptly took my hand and dipped me down in front of her.
"Jesus Lexie," I laughed.
"The least I can do is distract you," she said as she pulled me back.
"You are pretty good at that," I told her, "thank you."
We stayed out on the dance floor way longer than I thought we would, and it did end up being a pretty good distraction.
I was thankful for how understanding Lexie had been, and it made it a lot easier to have fun with her.
I was also glad to have her there once Whitney and Malia eventually joined us. There were plenty of people around, but I felt like I couldn't stop seeing them wherever I looked.
I tried not to pay attention to it, but it seemed like they were being extra handsy. As much as I wanted to say that I didn't care, it still bothered me to see.
I knew that Lexie had noticed me getting increasingly uncomfortable as the party started to wind down.
She pulled me closer to her and whispered in my ear.
"Let's get out of here," she said.
I nodded in response and she kept her mouth close to me.
"I think you should come back to my apartment," she said.
My heart raced as I contemplated my answer. I wasn't completely sure that it would be a good idea, but fuck it was a tempting offer.
Lexie was hot, and let's just say it had been a while since I'd had this type of opportunity.
"Yeah," I finally said, "I think I can do that."
"Good," she grinned, "let's go then."
She grabbed on to my hand and led me through the people that remained.
Whitney and I managed to share one more awkward glance as I watched her wrap her arms around Malia's waist from across the room.
I turned my attention back to Lexie, and we walked out to the parking lot.
We got into my car and she rested her hand on my leg as she directed me back to her place.
"That was fun," she said as she looked over at me.
"Yeah it wasn't too bad," I told her.
