The only thing breaking you out of this trance was the soft rumbles of footsteps, ones belonging to Megatron. He started to sit, his back was to you, until he laid all the way down. His head was a few feet away from you but, probably for the first time you'd been alone with him, you felt completely at ease. It was the like the meadow had cast a relaxation spell on you that told you "This is fine. You'll be fine".
You knelt down letting your arms hold you up from behind you, before swinging your legs out from under you and letting yourself rest on the soft flowers. The silence was welcome as you two laid, taking in the sounds and smells of the forest. Your head was parallel to Megatron's, and while you thought you would feel awkward, instead all you felt was content. You couldn't say anything wrong if you didn't have to speak, you couldn't do anything foolish if you didn't have to do anything. Feelings didn't matter here or lack thereof. All that mattered was the blue bird that flew above you, singing its morning song.
"I found this place when we first arrived in Pennsylvania. I never told anyone about it, not even Prime." He looked at you.
" Don't worry, I'm sworn to secrecy." It was as much a joke as it wasn't one. You wanted to lighten the mood, but you also were being honest. You wouldn't tell anyone about this place, you wanted it to be a place only you and him knew about. If it could be, it would be the only place you could be yourself with him, no one would judge you for being quite here. It was a place made for its visitors to be silent.
"I would come here for the silence, the solitude. After the war I felt like I didn't have a purpose, but here, I didn't need one. I'd never seen such a beautiful place on any planet. I didn't know this place even existed on this one." You listened to him as he opened up to you.
You wished this moment could last a lifetime, you wished you and him could just lay here, unmoving, talking when you had something to say. Nothing more. You wanted to tell him how you felt. You wanted to tell him every time you saw him your mind would go wild, your heart would beat faster, and your face would get warm with blush. You wished you could tell him you wanted him to brush your hair out of your face when you tried to hide from him, or that you wished he had rubbed your back as he held you. You wanted to tell him you wanted to spend more than just a few days with him, you wanted to tell him all of this. But you didn't. You just looked into his eyes, waiting for him to finish his thought.
"I would come here to think as well. I hope this place gives you the same...solace." He ended almost in a whisper.
You turned your head and hummed in response. You wanted to mutter thank you or say anything, but you knew if you started you wouldn't be able to stop. You didn't want to word vomit everything that had been on your mind for the last month or so. You just stayed silent.
You stole a glance from the corner of your eye. His eyes were closed, and you could see the slightest hint of an exhale. It was different than how humans breathed. Megatron's ex-vent washed over your face, the cold air making you shiver. You watched as he positioned his arm to nestle the grass around you. Before you could stop yourself, your hand, with a mind of its own, brushed across the side of his face. It was the first time since you had entered the meadow that your mind had snapped back to reality. It was also the first time you had been the one to touch him first.
His eyes snapped open, but you saw curiosity swirling around in his expression, not annoyance or anger. You didn't want to remove your hand, but you also didn't want to sit in this limbo anymore. Before you could withdraw your hand, he closed his eyes and nuzzled into your touch. You swore your heart was going to explode. Thats how you stayed for a while, your hands would caress the small amount of face you could reach, his ex-vents getting warmer on your face, if you didn't know better you swore you could hear him purring. It was fitting for this cat and mouse game he played with you, him being the cat of course,
it wasn't until the soft pitter patter of rain hit your exposed legs did you finally break yourself out of the spell of the meadow. You retracted your hand as a low grumble of thunder awoke the sky. The clouds piled up fast and in the split second you took to stand up, it started to down pour on the two of you.
You ran for cover with the bot following behind you. Once you reached the canopy of trees that kept the rain relatively away from you, you let out a sigh. You were soaked to the bone and your clothes stuck to you like they were glued on. Your hair that was in a neat(ish) ponytail was now halfway down your shoulders. The humidity made your smaller strands poof out and you felt like a mess and probably looked like one too.
"Well, this wasn't in the forecast." You heard him mutter. For some reason it sent you into a fit of giggles. It didn't help that you were shaking from the large dip in temperature. You shivered and leaned on Megatron's leg for support. You had assumed that he would be cold to the touch but instead the metal of his leg felt warm. Or maybe you were just that cold. Megatron seemed to think it was the latter as he surprised you by grabbing you and cradling you in his hands. The action took you by surprise but at this point it was not unwanted.
"You're freezing cold." You could hear the worry evident in his voice as he held you closer to his core, the warmest part of him.
"When the wind lets up, we'll head back." You didn't respond just nodded your head and fell into his warmth. Your back was to the insignia in the middle of his chest, and you felt yourself warm up quickly. You felt the need to say something, to thank him for everything or even just start small talk with him. Before you could open your mouth, a loud grumble drew your attention to the sky. Lightning could be seen in the distance, and you hoped it would stay that way. But just then, a large flash ran across the sky, maybe only mere miles from where you two stood, the thunder was loud and made you want to cover your ears. You weren't usually scared of thunder or lightning but that was when you were safe and inside, not out in the open where your only form of safety was a giant metal lightning rod. Before you could voice your worries, the sound of a yelp and thud stole your attention.
A red and blue heap landed in the middle of the open field. At first you were worried the winds had picked up a car and mangled it unrecognizable, that was until the heap started moving. You could vaguely make out legs and arms and then a body. A head, shaped like a triangle, peeked out and what you first thought was another set of arms looked to actually be wings. It turned at the sound of Megatron's canon sparking to life. You didn't recognize the Cybertronian as one you had met before, but it was unmistakably one of them. You looked the bot over and gasped when you saw the purple Decepticon symbol that twinned on each of its wings. A list of names circled through your mind but the instant reaction from Megatron had you circling one in red.
Starscream.
