"Stop it, I'm on my way!"

You rushed to the door and opened it.

"Steve, you're so annoying. I was literally on my way." You laughed as you saw him standing there. "I haven't seen you at my house in awhile. Come in."

"I can't come in. I am in a hurry."

You frowned and leaned against your doorframe.

"Why are you here?" You asked.

Steve put his hands in his pockets and sighed.

"I'm leaving for training. Tomorrow."

You stared at him for a moment. That was it, he was actually leaving. Just for training but you had no idea when you'd see him again.

"I.. uh.."

You wanted to say something but noticed you got choked up. You swallowed and managed to force a smile.

"I'm gonna miss you." Was all you managed to get out. "I'm sure you'll do great."

Steve didn't say anything and just pulled you into a hug. You held him tightly for a moment. You were really going to miss him. There was no point in lying about that. H was your best friend. You were worried about what was going to happen to him. All the things that could go wrong.

"I'll write you. Who knows, maybe I'll even see you around."

"I hardly doubt that. I haven't heard anything about my practice yet."

You slowly let Steve go and looked at him.

"If you do, let me know." He smiled. "I really have to go and pack  my stuff. I need to leave early tomorrow."

You just nodded.

"Be safe, okay?" You asked.

Steve smiled and laid a hand on your upper arm.

"Remember, I'll always try to come home to you."

You smiled as he turned around to leave.

About a week later, you got a letter in the mail, drafting you to come to the military base with all the other girls. Of course, you wouldn't be fighting but practise and costume fittings would be taking place in a separate building. You'd be helping the marketing campaign to try and persuade more men to sign up. But you just saw it as an opportunity.

"Alright, line up ladies."

You formed a line with all the other girls. There were quite a lot and they were all very pretty.

"Practise will take place here Monday, Thursday, thrusday and Friday. We expect you to be on time. Wednesdays are dedicated to fashion, pictures and other projects you'll be a part of." Your new coach explained. "During the weekends, you're free to visit family and spend your time however you want. You will find the dressing room in the back and your sleeping areas to the side of the practise room. Make sure you get unpacked. Our first rehearsal starts tomorrow."

You already knew that you had to stay here.. maybe you could run into Steve? The base was huge, you didn't even know where you had look for him.

"Mens quarters are off limits, unless you have permission to go there. Don't go running around the base on your own. I'll see you girls later to go over your diet."

Diet? This was going to be hell. As all girls started heading to collect their stuff. You walked over to your coach.

"Miss, hi. I had a small question." You smiled.

She turned around and looked you up and down before frowning, you didn't know what she was looking at but you didn't even want to waste time asking.

"Yes?"

"So I was hoping that I could speak to a Sargent.. or anyone in charge really?"

She gave you an amused smile. You had no idea where this was going.. but her posture didn't implicate anything good. You weren't going to back down. You wanted to take this opportunity.

"Why?" She just asked.

"Well, I grew up with hunting and my dad taught me self defense and how important staying physically strong is for your mind and body. When I enlisted I actually wanted to be a solder.. not a dancer."

She just started laughing. It kinda hurt. You didn't even say anything funny, you were dead serious. When she noticed you weren't laughing she slowly stopped and looked at you on disbelief.

"You're a woman. You're not going to fight." She grinned.

"I read in the newspaper about Margaret Carter. She's in our army. So why can't I?"

Your coach stepped a little closer to you.

"She's from England. They're weird people, they do things differently there. You're a women, stay in your lane and unpack your stuff. You're not fighting."

"Just let me show them what I can-"

"End of discussion. You dance, or you go home. Your choice."

You looked at her but didn't say anything. You felt disappointed and ashamed. You grabbed your stuff and headed down to the sleeping quarters. It was large room with nothing in it but beds. Each girl had their own bed and if you were lucky a window near it so you could see outside. You headed to the last empty bed and put down your stuff to unpack.

When the night was falling, you were alone in the room. All the girls had left, it was almost dinner time. You didn't want to dance. You didn't want to go to rehersals. If the coach didn't want to help you, you were taking matters into your own hands. Even if that meant breaking a few rules.

You decided to sneak out the back there and head over the actual base. All you needed was one open door, one conversation.. one chance. You looked around the corner if the coast was clear before running towards the closest building where you could a door that was left open slightly.

You sneaked inside but had the shock of your life when you realised you were in the men's sleeping quarters. You definitely didn't want a soldier to find you right here. Most rooms were completely empty. They probably had dinner time too. One room had a familiar face inside. Sitting there all alone.

"Knock knock."

Steve looked up in shock as he turned around and saw you.

"Y/N!" He exclaimed as he got up and hugged you. "What are you doing here?" He asked.

"Rehearsal are here. They won't let me fight though." You sighed. "How is training going?"

Steve seemed to be happy. You hoped he had found his place here.

"It's going okay. I clearly can't keep up but I try. I beat the others in a few things though, they aren't the smartest bunch."

You grabbed his soldier tag and smiled.

"It looks good on you."

Steve grabbed your arm and took you towards his bed, where you both sat down.

"I can't stay long. I'm not allowed to be here."

"That's true, you aren't." You suddenly heard behind you.
