My One Exception - Magic Bullet

Kate had to answer with her usual sass ."Not even a "Hello, nice to see you?"

Chris' expression was a mixture of worried and pissed off. "All I've got a the moment is "Please put the assault rifle away before someone notices."

Kate just scoffed at him "That's the brother I love." Chris turned his attention to his younger cousin "Hi Charlotte."

She just nodded in greeting "Hey." as she put her pistol away.

"Chris, there were two of them." Kate pipped up.

"The alpha?" he questioned.

"I don't know, but one of them tried to kill me." she explained.

"One of them was going to lead us to the other. He can't do that if he's dead." Chris countered.

Kate looked annoyed "Well, I can't help kill either of them if one of them kills me first."

Chris looked like he was contemplating something and then asked Kate how it long it would take for the bullet to run its course.

"I'd give him 48 hours....if that." she responded and headed to the car. Charlotte and Chris exchanged a look before doing the same. Kate was a loose cannon, already screwing things up.

The next morning, Charlotte woke up to squealing and laughing, which could only mean that Allison had found Kate. Out of this whole god awful trip, Charlotte's highlight was surprising her little cousin and it was showtime. She walking into Kate's room quietly and Allison was looking at a few of Kate's shirts on the bed.

"Wow, you've really grown up." Charlotte said, grabbing Alison's attention.

"Char?! You're here?! Oh my god!" Alison jumped off the bed and bear hugged her.

"It's good to see you, Allie." Charlotte said, hugging Allison back. Just then, Chris tapped on the door frame.

"I hate to break this up, but you need to get ready for school." he said to Allison. "It's ok babe, we will be here when you get back. Promise." Charlotte assured her.

The three of them ended up going to the store to get food for the week. Thankfully, werewolf talk had subsided for the day but was replaced with Chris and Kate arguing whether name brand Mac and Cheese tasted better than store brand Mac and Cheese. Charlotte would have rather duked it out completely unarmed with the alpha than hear another minute of this ridiculous debate.

When they arrived home, she was helping Kate get groceries out, when this really cute boy with messy dark hair came out of the house. Chris was trying to get the kid leave but Kate invited him to stay for dinner. Both of the guys turned to go back inside when Charlotte and the kid made eye contact.

"Uh, hi. I'm Scott. I'm a...friend of Allison's." extending his hand to her.

"Nice to meet you. I'm Charlotte, Allie's cousin." As soon as they shook hands, Charlotte knew there was something different about him. It wasn't a bad feeling, either. He actually seemed like a nice kid. Just different.

Dinner became extremely awkward extremely fast. Chris turned into the stick-up-the-ass father that no one likes, Alison was upset, Kate was questioning Scott, and Victoria acted like nothing was wrong. Charlottes felt terrible for the kids, so she decided to step in.

"So Scott, Allison told us you work at a vet clinic?"

Scott immediately relaxed at the familiar topic." Yeah, I do. I work with Dr. Deaton, he's great. He's giving me a lot of opportunities."
