I sped into the other lane, attempting to control my emotions as I drove quickly through the chilly night. I quickly looked at the radio, where a light shined the current time. "2:30 AM". I huffed slowly and I detoured to a parking lot. I chaotically parked and flew my hands off of the steering wheel, instantly connecting to my temples. My elbows rested uneasily on the steering wheel as I leaned forward, allowing a tear to drip off of my chin. A surprising buzz vibrated in the seat next to me, making me jump and remove my hands
from my head, whipping my head to face the seat. Another buzz sounded, shaking the leather slightly. I shuffled my bag around to find my phone brightly lit. I squinted, the light momentarily blinding me. Picking it up, numerous texts showed. I scrolled through them quickly.

Mom:
"I'm sorry. Tell me where you are and I'll come pick you up."

Allie (Big bug; sister):
"Amy, please come home. I miss you."

Anja:
"Where are you!?"
"Don't ignore me!"
"I will do this until you answer!"
"Amy, please."
"Amy!"
"I care about you."

They only want me home, it's like they don't even care if I'm okay or not. Dropping my phone into the other seat, I looked at my surroundings. "Battlefield Mall" shimmered behind large letters, sitting on the top building. Where the hell even am I? I grabbed my phone again, immediately opening up Safari and searching up the mall.

Battlefield Mall: Mall in Springfield, Missouri.

A phone number, address, and hours listed below a picture that matched my current view. I drove all the way to Missouri? At least it's a long way from Chicago. Another text lowered down from the top of the screen, a text from Anja reading "please be okay, Amy. please". At least someone cares about me. Tapping on the text, it brought me to our texting conversation. My fingers flew across the keyboard.

"I'm in Missouri. don't worry about me. I'll be alright. I'll talk to you later."

Anja:
"Missouri!? Should I tell anyone?"

"No! My dad went insane again. I don't want to go near him ever again. That was the last
straw."

Anja:
"I'm sorry."

"It's not your fault."
