"It was either that or bring Loona with us, okay?" said Blitzø in defence. "She would've totally ripped that crowd to shreds in 10 seconds, tops."
"I'm sure she's fine with Balin, sir." awed Millie. "What a little peach he is. I could just eat him up."
"Well, while I will admit, I have grown an impression on the kid, I'm just concerned about mine." spoke Blitzø. "It's not like her to just up and decline one of our missions like this, even for him."
"And what's wrong with him, boss?" asked Millie.
"Holy shit." exclaimed Moxxie, before he used quotation fingers saying: "Maybe because she's becoming a 'mother' to him."
"For a bi, that is the gayest thing you have ever said." snapped Blitzø. "Of course she's not becoming one! She hates kids, I just know it so much, she'd be a terrible mother."
"Is it because you don't wanna let her go, Blitzø?"
"I'MMA KILL YOU MOXXIE!" screamed Blitzø as he started chasing Moxxie back and forth, while Millie shook her head with a sigh and chuckle.
Soon, she got a notification on her phone, seeing something quite interesting. And surprising.
BACK AT I.M.P...
Loona continued reading her magazine, when Balin came limping out of the board room having finished reading some of his book.
"How you doin', kiddo?" Loona looked at him with a smile.
"I'm just resting now, Loona." replied Balin, as he went onto the couch to play on his iPhone.
Luckily enough, his phone had enough charge with a charger in his backpack AND there was enough Wi-fi thanks to I.M.P's modem.
From time to time, Loona and Balin would look at each other with smiles on their faces.
"Cute kid." Loona said to herself a couple of times.
She thought the kid looked absolutely adorable playing on his phone like that. It was reminding her of a little her, as he was all the things that she wasn't. Happy-go-lucky and perfect the way she was.
She worried at times whether she was an asshole to literally everyone she met, even if they were kids and especially I.M.P. But seeing Balin sit there, calmly accepting this world beyond his own, she now had a feeling of love for him.
The next time she looked at him, she got emotional, as unknowingly, her eyes began to water up.
"You okay, Loona?" asked Balin.
"Yeah, just..." sniffled Loona in response.
The boy grabbed a box of tissues from the filing cabinet and handed them to her at her desk.
"Thanks, mini dude." she said, catching her breath as she wiped her eyes. "You okay now, after earlier?"
"Well, I'm a little bored right now." replied Balin.
"Well, remember, if you wanna talk, I'm always here." Loona smiled. "I'm not going anywhere, I'm not gonna let those exorcists kill me and take me away from you."
"Thank you, Loona." sighed Balin, as he sat back down on the couch.
Then, Loona had another idea to make him welcome in Hell. She put down her magazine and stood up from her desk.
"Alright, make some room." said Loona.
The boy sat up on one side of the couch as Loona sat on the other and wrapped her arms around him. He knew what she was doing and was blushing in surprise from the affection, causing him to return the hug.
The two then laid down on the whole couch and started cuddling together.
Looking at one another with affectionate smiles, Balin rested his head in Loona's chest while her snout rested on his head.
To Balin, Loona's heartbeat was like rolling thunder and her fur was so soft and warm, it melted almost the entire world away from him.
Softly, Loona unsheathed her claws and stroked the back of his hair, gently as to not tear off his scalp. Although they did tickle like most sharp objects do when handled with care.
Balin was already so relaxed with his saviour hellhound resting by his side. Instinctively, he began scratching behind her ears.
A few seconds into the pleasure, Loona looked down at Balin with a cheeky smile and started licking his left cheek, her long tongue sticking out kawaii-style in between the licks. Normally, she'd be against this kind of behaviour, but seeing how kids in his world love it so much, she almost found it cute at such a late time in her life.
As Balin giggled softly at the doggy kisses, his chocolate Dalmatian mask melted off his face from how warm her tongue was.
"You know, you're really great with dogs." she smiled. "Didn't you say you have a discomfort around them?"
"Yeah. Only around my family." replied Balin. "But I did have an afghan hound when I was a baby."
"Oh yeah. I remember you saying that last night." said Loona. "Where is it now? Is it with your family?"
"No. She died last year." sighed Balin.
"Oh, I'm sorry."
"Nah, it's fine. I'm too young to know the feeling."
"You can never be too young." chuckled Loona. "But to know you've made friends with a hellhound, with razor-sharp claws and fangs, you're a brave little one. Aren't you?"
Balin then gave a slight nod, before Loona looked back at her receptionist area with an idea.
"Oh, Balin?"
"Yeah?"
"There's a brush in the top drawer of my desk." she asked him, pointing at the desk. "Could you do me a favour and grab it for me? Please?"
See y'all in the next chapter.
