It's been two years after the unfortunate passing of John "Soap" MacTavish. Task Force 141 was left feeling the deep, agonizing hole he left behind. Ghost was taking this the hardest out of all of them, losing his best friend and most trusted ally. Since then, the Task Force hasn't been the same. The usual life and banter seemed to have faded, leaving it a shell of what it once was. The only thing keeping any sort of morale was the hope that Captain Price held onto. Even in the darkest of times, he never lost his warmth. But that warmth would mean nothing in the face of the harsh cold reality of war. TF141 was still one man down, and Makarov was still on a rampage. With a suggestion from Kate Laswell, TF141 would recruit a soldier from the US air force. Sariah "Castiel" Samuels. Today, she was being flown into HQ, where the boys would be meeting her for the first time.
Laswell was standing outside near the runway alongside Captain Price to greet the new member and recruit. The two share a nod as the plane comes to a hold and the pilot exits with Castiel, rambling on and on about other missions where he flew low in a helicopter to avoid enemy detection. Laswell shook her head and called out for them, "Nikolai! Don't you think the recruit is already filled to the brim with enough stories?"
"Apologies Laswell! She asked how long I was in the Russian army as a pilot! Stay safe little miss!" Nikolai smiled to Castiel and patted her shoulder, turning back around to refill the plane. She rubbed the back of her neck and tried to settle her nerves.
"Sariah Samuels? Callsign Castiel?" Laswell asked and held her hand out for a handshake. Castiel gave Nikolai a warm smile before she eagerly shook Laswell's hand.
"Yes, ma'am. Sargent Castiel, reporting for duty." She said formally, yet there was an undeniable mix of nerves and excitement in her tone. She released Laswell's hand and stood full attention. She had to resist the urge to shift her weight from the discomfort she was feeling in favor of impressing Laswell and keeping things professional. The idea of joining TF141 was daunting, but thrilling at the same time. She would be working alongside three of the best soldiers the world has ever seen. She really didn't want to make a fool of herself.
"Well Samuels, you'll do just fine," Captain Price spoke up and patted her shoulder. Castiel looked up at him and nodded in acknowledgement, her smile somewhere between excited, eager, and anxious. He smiled gently and nodded for her to follow them as him and Laswell turned around and started to head into the base. "Tell me, why the callsign 'Castiel'? Doesn't seem very appealing when working in the military." He smiled and couldn't help but find it strangely feminine and pretty for someone who was meant to be a badass soldier.
"Ah, well, Castiel is a spin on the name Cassiel, which is the angel of tears, temperance, and serenity. Calling upon Cassiel in battle is said to drive your enemies away and gives you a feeling of peace and strength," Castiel said proudly as she continued to follow Price. "Additionally, Castiel is a Hebrew name meaning 'shield of God', and I sure hope to be a shield to the people I protect and serve alongside."
Price raised an eyebrow at her. "So, why an angel name?" He asked. Castiel perked up even more and moved closer beside him.
"Well, an angel flies and so do I. Plus, my previous team and I figured it would be pretty badass, since I'm pretty good at fucking shit up," she said as calmly as she could, and even added a little humor to ease her own nerves.
"Well, we can't have any fuck ups happen when working with the Task Force. We lost a member, and we can't have that happen again. You'll be working directly under Lieutenant Simon 'Ghost' Riley. Have you been briefed about him yet?" He asked and turned his head to look at Castiel. "Fair warning, he needs time to warm up to you. God knows Johnny suffered trying to win his respect, heheh . . . poor bastard..." Price shook his head, shoulders sagging slightly.
