Chapter 7 - Anomaly's Tendency [3]

Start from the beginning

I paused in my tracks, sighing as i saw a whirlpool forming below. A giant monster rose from the centre of the splashes, an itchyosaur to be exact. Double the size of the one I had seen through the window earlier.

This time...it wasn't a sea serpent. It was a sea commander.

A general sea serpent was only a grade 7 monster. Given that grade 9 monstrous land rate was difficult for humans to cope with. An average human would be torn by an eight grade monster.

In other words, the guy coming now wasn't a monster that could be caught in early stages. Though as Dokja said and I quote, there wasn't a need to catch it. It wasn't created to be caught.

Ku ku ku ku!

The Han river surged like there was a tsunami and the ichthyosaur moved. It was chewing on the legs of the bridge.

"The bridge is breaking!"

"Run! If we run then we can cross it!"

I looked back to see Yoo Sangah, Han Myungoh, Lee Hyunsung with Gilyoung in his arms and KimDokja rushing as far as they could.

The remaining distance was about 200 metres. Dokja must be thinking now that if his calculations are correct, then they could definitely cross the bridge before it collapsed at their current speed.

[There is no fun if the game is too easy.]

Of course, this was a story for when there were no variables.

[The scenario difficulty has been adjusted.]

[Scenario difficulty: E -> D]

The sound of the dokkaebi's laughter was heard.

[Is there any fun if you just run away? Let's create a bit of atmosphere!]

[The evil thoughts of the dead have returned.]

[The surrounding earth is filled with black ether.]

[The demonic people have woken up.]

Zombie like bodies, most likely piles left to bleed in the subways and the surroundings slowly rose up and began chasing us.

The distance to the ichthyosaur was now less than a hundred metres. Fortunately, Lee Hyunsung carried Lee Gilyoung and had safely crossed the line. If I wanted to, I could cross the finish line as well. But I paused in my tracks, looking back once more.

The problem was that if it was how I'd remember, Han Myungoh would betray Kim Dokja and leave, making it so that it was impossible for Kim Dokja to cross the bridge due to a certain interference of a constellation that would appear later.

I didn't want to just turn a blind eye, knowing all the struggles that Kim Dokja of the future was going to go through.

But everything that happened, did help progress the story and led to Kim Dokja gaining more achievements and points after all.

I decided to enter the bridge safely instead. Knowing the future, it might be risky for the plotline if I hadn't entered right away, because I absolutely can't let the number of people in the bridge be even before Yoo Joonghyuk appeared.

"Y-You bastards!"

Han Myungoh shrieked. There were too many demonic people. If there were only corpses from the subway, it wouldn't be such a problem if there were only corpses from the subway. However....

"Kuweeeoooh!"

The drivers who died on the bridge became demonic people. The path that Lee Hyunsung broke through was covered with demonic people. Dokja must be having a heart time, with the demonic people on the road and the approaching ichthyosaur.

"... Everybody get down."

It was too late.

Kwaaaaang!

The legs of the bridge shook tremendous as the ichthyosaur's huge mouth bit it.

The scales of the ichthyosaur shone through the dust that poured down onto the Han River like rain. A fishy smell of blood and water filled the area.

Once the dust went away, I once again, saw a scene from the novel.

「 Piles of shattered concrete and cut steel. The carcasses of the demonic people which the ichthyosaur had cleanly bit through.」

「 The broken leg of the bridge. 」

"...Dok.. Sii.. Kay?"

Yoo Sangah and Han Myungoh raised their bodies from a little further away.

One of Han Myungoh's legs seemed injured and injured from the previous quake.

I looked at the Lee Hyunsung and Lee Gilyoung next to me, who cried out yet their voices were blocked by the safety zone.

Kim Dokja seemed to be questioning himself what he could do. He had made plans on the basis of the bridge breaking but he never expected Han Myungoh and Yoo Sangah to be with him.

At that moment, a voice was heard in the air.

[Someone has received the favour of a constellation.]

[The constellation's scenario 'Deus Ex Machina' has been activated.]

Along with the voice, a brilliant badge of light was created among the remnants of the broken Dongho bridge.

Then, I could see a message float in front of me.

+

[Deus Ex Machina - Even Bridge]

Description: A bridge of light made by a constellation. Only an 'even' number of people can cross it. The bridge will disappear as soon as an odd number of people tries to cross ig.

+

"Dokja-ssi. This, in my head, suddenly-"

Yoo Sangah seemed to be explaining something to Kim Dokja as he listened intently.

Deus Ex Machina. Constellations risked a huge loss by intervening in scenarios.

"... It is Yoo Sangah-ssi's sponsor. "

Dokja didn't know what constellation it was but he knew someone had chosen Yoo Sangah as their incarnation and wanted her to live.

Deus Ex Machina was a rare phenomenon itself even in the original novel of WOS and Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint. And Yoo Sangah is a person who should've already died in ORV.

At that moment, Kim Dokja doubted. What type of constellation was behind Yoo Sangah?

Appearing to be skeptical, Kim Dokja used his skill to view information on characters, only to find out Yoo Sangah wasn't in it.

If only he had a face, I would've been able to see his expression. I was quite disappointed. I wanted to see Dokja's face, badly. But it seems almost impossible, from the information I had gathered through reading the novel.

Because in the end, no one saw his true face.

"Dokja-ssi, what do we do now?"

Yoo Sangah said, an obvious tone of bewilderment clear in her statement. Dokja didn't have much time to think.

Ku ku ku ku!

The Han River was swirling and the ichthyosaur had eaten one bridge leg and was turning it's huge body on the other side of the Han River.

Only an 'even' number of people were allowed to cross the bridge.

In the end, the constellations were cruel to the very end, sadistically making sure that there was no way for everyone to survive.

Han Myungoh was shaking as his eyes met Kim Dokja's.

「In the end, somebody must die.」

"... In the end, somebody needs to die huh."
