Unexpected

CLASS

The other ladies were still searching for the spell while Nova and I watched our dried up roses.

"Next, the regeneration."

I closed my eyes and let the spell flow in my thoughts.

Minissi, lumic, kata, fresi.

There was another chill that ran down my spine. My eyes opened as I looked around the classroom. This feeling felt random, and I wondered what was causing it.

"Wonderful job, Ms. Lily."

My focus went to my rose. It was once again vibrant and in full bloom. I smiled instantly at my accomplishment.

"Thanks, Professor."

We did more reading and took a short quiz. After class was over, we packed our book bags, ready to head to the dorm houses.

While we walked down the hall, I noticed that Nova seemed on edge. She would look back every few steps we took.

"Are you okay, Nova?"

"Yeah, I just keep getting this feeling like we're being watched or followed."

"I kept feeling chills earlier."

"Hey ladies."

"AH!"

We both screamed in unison at Monty behind us.

"Sheesh! Are you trying to get maced?" I had my hand on my keychain.

He held his hands up. "My apologies, ladies. Can I walk with you to the parking lot?"

"Sure."

When we got to the exit, there were three guys outside standing at the bottom of the steps talking.

I could tell they were werewolves, and from Nova's body language, she could too. Most of the students that went here were girls.

Female werewolves were a minority, while human hybrids (human/another species) and vampires were high in number. The small guy population that attended were majority vampires and human hybrids.

"Oh shit, I knew there was some werepussy around."

One of the guys said when we passed them. Thank goodness Monty was with us. He's a vampire... that species is pretty strong.

"Disgusting animals." Monty walked behind us.

We got to our car relieved. Our dorm house was ten minutes away.

"Thanks for walking with us, Monty. Do you want a ride to your car?"

"No ladies, I'm fine. You both are welcome and drive safely."

He waited until we drove off, then walked away.

"Ugh, I'm starving," Nova whined.

"Do you wanna stop at the Mexican spot?"

"Ooh, you read my mind."

We went to the restaurant, ordered and ate inside. It was nice to be somewhere other than class or the dorms.

"Have you spoken to Noah?"

Nova smiled. "Yeah."

My excitement showed. "That's so awesome. I'm glad you're giving him a chance."

"I couldn't stay away if I tried. He really is my person and I don't want that to end. Am I stupid for feeling that way?"

"Heck no! You and Noah are perfect for each other."

TAP! TAP!

Nova and I looked in the direction of the tapping on the restaurant window. There was a guy standing there, staring at us.

"Do you ladies have someone that can pick you up?" The restaurant owner asked.

"I have a car."

"Yeah, well, I don't think it's a good idea for you two to go out there right now."

I was confused. "Should we call the authorities or something?"

"Do you know that guy?"

Just when Nova asked, the man tried to come in the door, but it was locked.

"I already locked the doors after you two came inside."

We were trying not to freak out, but soon, two more men stood outside watching us.

"Are they a gang?"

"No, but they're werewolves."

"Okay, but why are they out there staring at us?"

"They're not staring at me. I'm an old lady...my heat days have been over a long time ago."

"Huh?"

"It's mating season, young ladies, and you both are fresh meat on the menu."

"WHAT?!" Our eyes widened as we began to freak out.

Now, there were multiple pairs of eyes glowing in the dark outside of the restaurant windows.

"Maybe we can use our abilities." I looked at Nova.

"Right..."

I used my shield to protect Akim. Nova zapped a rogue and Noah. Maybe this wasn't going to be bad after all.

We both closed our eyes to concentrate, but it was interrupted by the old lady.

"It may not work."

"Why?" We asked in unison and opened our eyes.

"You poor babies. Did they not teach you two about werewolf mating?"

"We're half human."

"Oh...well, it still applies."

"Your defenses are non-existent for your potential mates to be able to breed you. Nature can't have you hurting them during the process of consummating."

Nova's voice trembled. "B-But we both already have mates."

"Oh, I see. That's why you two aren't reacting to those males outside."

GRRRRRRR....

The outside growls made us jump.

"Ladies, now would be a great time to call your mates."
