Omniscient POV.
April 6, 2016.

Isabelle was the golden girl of Smith & Associates. A new partner at just 23, her sunny disposition and unbeatable courtroom record made her a darling of the firm. She was the one they called when they needed a win, and she
always delivered.

On this particular morning, however, something was off. The usual hum of the office was replaced with an undercurrent of tension. Assistants whispered behind raised hands, their eyes darting toward the conference room. Even the normally unflappable partners seemed rigid, their faces pale.

Isabelle's curiosity was piqued. She made her way to her office, intending to call her assistant for information, but before she could sit down, the head partner, Mr. Smith himself, burst in.

"Isabelle, we need you in conference room A. Now."

"Of course," she replied, rising. "May I ask what this is regarding?"

"Aleksandr Voronova," he muttered, already hurrying down the hall. "The CEO of the Voronova Corporation ."

Isabelle's eyes widened. She recognized that name from overhearing her papa in his office. A chill ran down her spine. She could not help but to become nervous wondering what he was here for. Her father is the Don for the Italian mafia in New York but she left that life years ago. She was clean. No. She is clean. What would doom her to be sucked back into that life. For a minute she thought about running out of the building and never looking back. Two deep breaths and a clear mind later she refocused. He is not here for her. No one knows her real identity as Isabelle Bianchi. Isabelle Bianchi died three years ago there is and will only ever be Isabelle Anders now.

Isabelle knew that her father and Aleksandr are on terrible terms. She hated her father and the rest of her family for that matter. But she grew up hearing Aleksandrs' name and it was never a good thing when he was mentioned. If her father's reputation made him a demon then Aleksandr's reputation made him the devil. Everyone knows he is heartless. He murdered his first wife in cold blood and never even let her family say a final goodbye.

The Voronova Bratva was one of the most powerful Russian mafia organizations in the country. She had little experience with criminal law, but if Smith & Associates was taking the case, it was likely a matter of great importance. At this moment she wished that she never was so amazing at her job. Out of all people how did bad luck always find a way or her doorstep or in this case in her conference room.

In the conference room, a man sat at the head of the table. Even seated, his presence was imposing. Dark hair, piercing blue eyes, chiseled features. He was undeniably handsome, but there was a coldness to him, a sense of superiority that immediately put Isabelle's back up. A scar ran from the corner of his left eyebrow down to his cheekbone, a stark white line against his olive skin. His hands were large and menacing, the kind of hands that could easily snap a man in two.

"This is Aleksandr Voronova," Mr. Smith said, his voice trembling slightly. "Mr. Voronova, this is Isabelle Anders, our top litigator. She will be leading your case."

Aleksandr barely spared her a glance. "I hope you are more competent than you are attractive, Ms. Anders," he said, his thick accent dripping with condescension. His voice was like gravel, rough and unforgiving.

Isabelle felt a spark of anger, but she pushed it. She was a professional. "I will do everything in my power to ensure the best possible outcome for your case, Mr. Voronova."

The next nine months were a whirlwind. Aleksandr was facing charges of money laundering and racketeering, and the prosecution's case was strong. But Isabelle was determined to win. She poured all of her time and energy into the case, barely sleeping or eating as the trial approached.

Through it all, Aleksandr was a constant presence. Always immaculately dressed, always demanding. He questioned her strategies, second-guessed her decisions. His eyes seemed to bore into her, as if daring her to fail. But Isabelle held her ground, her confidence never wavering.

And then, it was over. The jury delivered their verdict - not guilty on all counts. Aleksandr was free.

In the aftermath of the trial, something shifted between them. Aleksandr was...different. He was still demanding, still uptight, but there was a glimmer of respect in his eyes now. And perhaps, Isabelle thought, something more.

They began to see each other, first just for drinks or dinner, but soon their dates turned into weekends, and weekends turned into weeks. Isabelle found herself falling for the man behind the Pakhan, the complex and multifaceted person she had glimpsed beneath the surface. He became more considerate of her than anyone had ever been her entire life. He understood her without her even having to say a word. She met his family and despite all the rumors and the talk about the Voronovas they were a close nit family and supported each other through everything. They easily accepted Isabelle as part of their family.

Isabelle also accepted Aleksandr. He was able to relax around her. She was his queen. Every breath she exhaled was the oxygen that kept him alive. He burned and bled for her. So he made a decision for them both ... they would marry.

After the wedding, Isabelle made the difficult decision to leave Smith & Associates. She found it was no longer her passion. So she became a homemaker, dedicating herself to Aleksandr, his family, and the life they built together.

It was not the future she had envisioned for herself, but as she looked at Aleksandr, at the man he had become, she knew it was the only future with true happiness.
